Battlefield Crash to desktop

I have tried everything to get it to work, memory hacks, repaired it via half a dozen of registry fixing programs, repaired through origin, did the cmd.exe command and nothing. For almost 1 year I get the same crap. After 15 or 20 minutes my game crashed back to desktop but doesn't give me an error message. The preview seems empty from the taskbar and I'm forced to just kill bf3.exe . Any solutions?

  • Here's my list of universal solutions that solve most problems. I've highlighted the most relevant. Hope that helps.

    Post better:
    - Please write descriptive (also the subject line) so the right people find your question and knows what it contain
    - Have it worked before? When did it start not working and what did you do just before that?
    - Post relevant log files, screenshots, descriptions, dxdiag, exact error messages, and all other relevant information(like platform) - even if it's stupid and obvious (there's a lot of clueless people on the internet ;-) )
-Tell what you have tried and how you did it and what the results are, in DETAIL!

Check for current outages and bugs:
    - Check the Battlefield server status: ( http://www.ea.com/servers/battlefield3 )
    - Check the Origin server status: http://www.origin.com/us/status
    - Check News and Official Announcements on Battlelog for outages and current problems

    Common questions:
    - Banned? Read this: ( https://help.ea.com/in/article/information-about-banned-or-suspended-accounts )
    - Veteran status / M1911 pistol / Gun Club: The Gun Club is gone and now requires a veteran status to obtain, this is gained from playing other Battlefield games. Play4Free, Heroes and 1942 is free to download and play and each give a veteran rank. Other games can be registrered at http://www.battlefieldbadcompany2.com/veteran. If that doesn't work contact EA support.
    - How to contact EA? Go to https://help.ea.com/contact-us . Fill in keywords then product, category and platform. Press 'Find Solutions' --> 'I Still Need Help'. Contact options will appear. If live chat/phone does not appear, it might be closed in your area at the moment and you might consider changing it to: 'United States' or something else in the language selector in the bottom of the site.
    - Can't access DLC/Premium? To find and handle your DLC right-click your game in Origin and click 'show game details' and scroll down to 'expansions'

    Common mistakes:
    - Can't find your game? Make sure you have bought BF3: Premium Edition and not just Premium.
    - EA ANSWER ME!! Answers HQ is a place where users help fellow users, not a place where you can contact EA.

    Things you should always try:
    - Make sure your computer meet all the game requirements ( http://gamesystemrequirements.com/games.php?id=1297 )
    - Try restarting your computer and network equipment (routers, switches etc.)
    - Try another browser (Chrome/FireFox/IE)
    - Try repairing your game in Origin (right click --> repair)
    - Try reloading your games in Origin by pressing "Reload My Games"
    - Check if Punkbuster is running correctly and update it manually ( https://help.ea.com/in/article/punkbuster-technical-issues )
    - Try setting bf3.exe and Origin as a trusted application in the windows(/other) firewall
    - Update ALL your drivers especially the graphics card but also components like soundcards, network card, motherboard/chipset, headset and mouse+keyboard, to the newest version, if the problem came with a new driver then remove that driver and downgrade to the driver that worked.
    - Try testing if the problem is still there if you perform a clean boot ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 )
    - Look for the problem in the pinned threads like - Check the READ FIRST post http://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-3/READ-FIRST-Known-issues-guides-and-FAQs/m-p/215092/highlight/true#M17936 and http://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-3/Battlefield-3-fixes-guide-read-carefully/td-p/76264

Well, the extra information raises a few issues. The first one your restrictions of slui.exe - this could indicate a problem with your Windows installation or suggest that you use an illegal version of Windows. If you use a less than legitimate version of Windows, this can cause all kinds of problems that are too complex for me to solve for you here.

Now the error with Event ID 8193 could suggest a lot of things. This event indicates that an unexpected Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) error has occurred. Now you might want to look further into the event log to find out why this error happens as described here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee264196(v=ws.10).aspx

Also, I would suggest moving the Origin Games installation directory to another harddrive if possible and turn off all backup, antivirus, firewall, antimalware, surfprotection etc. services you might have running. I would also at least try to run a scan of your harddrive, both with "sfc.exe /scannow" from a command-prompt with administration rights and with the built in Windows tool when you right click your hardrive and click properties --> tools --> check. Did you try the clean boot suggestion btw?

From your DXdiag I can see your sound drivers are quite old, you might want to look if you can find an upgrade from Gigabyte or Realtek themselves.

Also update your network card drivers if possible 🙂

Lastly the graphic card fan thing worried me a bit. Have you tried playing with your cabinet side off to see if that makes a difference, just to be sure?

  • Yeah, you caught me, my Windows is kinda "less than legitimate" haha. I just blocked slui.exe on my firewall and I can also delete it, if it's necessary. I turned the VSS service on, nothing has changed. I tried a Kaspersky virus scan a couple of days ago, defraged my HDD, tried with sfc.exe and the windows tool. I was using Driver Genius to update my drivers, some were indeed old now everything is upto date. The GPU fan has been doing this weird "boost" even with the cap off, I've been playing with the cap off for quite some time when I was testing the build. It always had more than normal temps.
