BF1 will not go "online" (PC)

I have not played in some time but yesterday I tried to and after the game finished updating and booted it put me right into the campaign. I thought that was odd but I exited from the campaign and tried to go to multiplayer.  The BF1 client claimed I was offline (even though Origin sees me as online) and despite repeated attempts to click the "Go Online" button it would not go online.  I have performed multiple repairs and I even went so far as to change my DNS settings but still I am not able to go online.  I am sure this was likely encountered and solved some time ago but google searches only show people having this issue back in 2016 due to the EA server being down.  I do not think that is the case here however.

    Problem solved:
This problem was caused by a recent Windows 10 update in the protection systems for Ransomware protection called "Controlled Folder Access". This prevents applications from being able to modify or write to designated protected folders such as "saved games".

To change this perform the following:
You can add an app to the list of safe or allowed apps to prevent them from being blockedSelect Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings. Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access.

Uninstall and reinstall of the game did not solve this issue either.
