Thanks for the suggestion! kxfx9sgd1n8k
I can’t confirm whether something like this is planned, but I’ll leave this here as feedback for the team.
Could you expand on the idea a little more? For example, which parts of Battlefield 1942 would you consider essential to bring back?
Battlefield 1942 was a great game! Thank you for sharing your passion for the game kxfx9sgd1n8k.

I’m a lifelong Battlefield fan, and I actually played Battlefield 1942 when it launched in 2002. I still remember the feeling of playing those huge battles for the first time — the sound of tanks approaching, aircraft flying overhead, ships fighting offshore, and dozens of players fighting for the same objectives. It was something that felt completely different from anything else at the time.
That’s why I think a modernized version of the original Battlefield 1942 would be something truly special for longtime Battlefield fans, as well as collectors and people who appreciate the history of the series. It would be amazing to see where Battlefield started brought back with modern technology, while respecting the original experience.
For me, the most important thing would be to preserve the soul of Battlefield 1942, rather than simply rebuilding the maps with modern mechanics.
The things I would consider essential are:
- The original five classes: Scout, Assault, Anti-Tank, Medic and Engineer. Each class had a simple but meaningful role, and teamwork actually mattered.
- True combined-arms warfare: infantry, tanks, jeeps, aircraft, ships and submarines all sharing one battlefield. That feeling of being part of a much bigger battle was one of BF1942’s greatest strengths.
- The classic maps: Wake Island, El Alamein, Stalingrad, Kursk, Omaha Beach, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Battle of the Bulge. These maps are part of Battlefield history and would be incredible to experience again with modern visuals.
- Classic Conquest: capturing and defending flags, pushing the enemy back and working together should remain the heart of the game.
- Simple, focused gameplay: no Specialists, hero abilities, endless attachments or complicated progression. Choose your class, pick up your weapon and join the battle.
- Meaningful teamwork: Engineers repairing vehicles, Medics helping wounded teammates, Scouts providing reconnaissance, Anti-Tank soldiers stopping enemy armor and Assault players fighting alongside the infantry.
- The freedom to create your own battlefield moments: running across a field while tanks pass by, jumping into a jeep, taking control of a tank or aircraft, landing on an enemy position, or suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a huge naval battle. Those moments were what made Battlefield feel so unique.
- Community servers and custom content: another important part of what kept Battlefield 1942 alive for so many years.
Most importantly, I would want the game to feel like Battlefield 1942.
Modern graphics, sound, physics, destruction and improved technology would be fantastic, but I would not want the original gameplay philosophy to be lost in the process.
For me, the ideal revival would be Battlefield 1942 exactly as we remember it, brought into the modern era — not turned into a completely different Battlefield game.
I think there are many longtime fans who would love the opportunity to experience those battles again, and for newer players to discover what made Battlefield special in the first place.
Some games are simply old. Battlefield 1942 is part of Battlefield history. I would love to see it preserved and brought back to life.
