Yes aero takes up more system resources that the standard schemed, but with 16GB of RAM this should not be a problem. I recommend to open MSCONFIG and look at which programs are starting at boot and running in the back ground. I did this and disabled several non-essential programs that should not be running unless I run them and my performance improved greatly.
I also recommend to run a malware scan with a program like Malwarebytes anit-malware and Spybot Search and Destroy in addition to doing a full virun scan to make sure that your PC isn't infected with code that is taking up system resources running in the background. And as always if you have Origin in game enabled turn it off.
To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings". Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box.
