DirectX Error low memory?

Just installed BF4 and updated to the latest drivers on my PC with a Radeon HD 7850 graphics card which has 1GB, i5 2500k processor, 8gb ram, windows 7 and I keep getting the following directx error:

DirectX function *device->CreateTexture2D( &texDesc, desc.subResourceCount ! = 0 ? reinterpret_cast<const D3D11_SUBRESOURCE_DATA *>(desc.subResourceData) : 0, &texture->m_texture2d)* failed with E_OUTOFMEMORY (*Direct3D count not allocate sufficient memory to complete the call.*) GPU: "AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series*, Driver 13.10 (13.20.11-130920a-162870E-ATI). Free virtual memory: 429062652kB / 4294967168kB. Total resource memory: 0kB. Make sure you have supported graphics card with at least 512 MB.

I have this exact same problem.

It occurs all the time when I try to use crossfire (2x 7950) and about 70% of the time when I try to use 1 card.. I leave task manager open so I can see memory usage, it only gets up to 4GB when it crashes and reports low memory.

    I have 8GB RAM, I5-3570K and 7950 crossfire. I'm using the latest 13.10 beta2 drivers.

When it does finally work, I'm getting 60-70fps on max settings, but with 2xMSAA, occassionally it dropped to 5 fps for no apparent reason.

My CPU usage is at 100% whether it's at 3.4GHz or 4.7GHz.

Personally, I would expect better from a public Beta release, Beta should be close to full release, only with minor bugs, but this game still has major issues. Considering AMD's 'exclusive deal' with DICE I'm amazed crossfire doesn't work.

Additionally, the graphics are poor. Compared to Crysis 3, which takes 2x7950 to get 60fps, BF4 only takes one and I can see why. Everying is so wooden and false. I was expecting better.

    Also getting this error message

Crossfire 2x HD6950 2GB. Happens frequently when video settings are set to Ultra, and about once or twice an hour when set to a mix of High and Ultra (no post-processing, some other options turned down). I've been experiencing it every single day since launch and barely anyone is talking about this error code. The last patch which claimed to address some stability issues did nothing for me, and it's beginning to feel like this is a hopeless situation. I've tried beta and stable drivers, I have the latest version of DirectX, and no other games have given me this problem before.

Additionally at launch whenever I had MSI Afterburner open, the game would crash within minutes. Really unacceptable conditions.

  • for some reason bf4 hates crossfire, i have 2x 7850s and i used to get the same error, i noticed mine said memory 0mb, so i figured maybe ill actually try the virtual memory feature (i usually have virtual memory disabled), i set it to 1gb min and 2222gb max and that fixed my directx error, although now i fear im using virtual memory instead of physical memory arghhhhh, but hey i dont crash anymore, can play for hours...well no i cant I still crash on map changes, god dammit dice!!!!!!
