emile44, you are incorrect. GameRanger does NOT use LAN for Battlefield 1942, it replaces the GameSpy master servers and uses Internet servers. Recommending untrusted and unreliable patches like you've done is not a good idea.

i have gameranger i know what it is and it does not allow for dedicated servers + mods or admins tool on the BFServerManager.
when your on gameranger you are in a closed network only players that have gameranger can join servers on gameranger you never see servers like on this list http://www.gametracker.com/search/bf1942/?=GO so gameranger = lan emulator and nothing more.
the main battlefield1942 community all support the new bf1942 master server on ax just look on the forums here are the links

there more but you get the idea here
even if ea wont support the patched bf1942.exe they can give links to better tools that do allow you to join a dedicated server
here are the good tools

Once again, you are incorrect. GameRanger DOES let you host dedicated servers using the dedicated server exe and server manager. The closed network makes it possible for anyone to host a server (dedicated or not) without doing port-forwarding. That has nothing to do with LAN. The users love the extra control rather than having to rely on the settings of a public server.
In addition, GameRanger *can* quite easily support external dedicated servers. There's already a server browser built-in with detailed filtering options. For example, paste a few CoD4 server IPs into the "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Servers" folder. I say paste because I'm currently doing maintenance on the master server.
I haven't enabled external dedicated server support for several games (such as 1942) because there hasn't been the demand -- the users actually prefer the community feel of interacting with other users before and after jumping into the game. Pure dedicated server lists don't offer that.
You might disagree with the choice, which is fine, but at least get your facts straight.
