There's no bf4.exe in the task manager.
If it happens to be there, it tells me that I've got no permissions to close the application, even though I'm logged in as an administrator and I've launched the task manager as an administrator.
And, to be honest, "restart the computer" is not a solution.
Edit: I tried the shell version of the task manager, it does indeed find bf4.exe and here is what happens when I try to kill it:
C:\Users\xxxx>taskkill /PID 5904
ERROR: The process with PID 5904 could not be terminated.
Reason: This process can only be terminated forcefully (with /F option).C:\Users\xxxx>taskkill /PID 5904 /F
ERROR: The process with PID 5904 could not be terminated.
Reason: Access is denied.Obviously 5904 is the PID of bf4.exe.
Further edit: The reason why the process cannot be killed is because it's in a "crashing" state, therefore the system is waiting for it to finish handling its crashing state.

FInally I have solved it for me :
I had two bf4.exe suspended process in the details section of the task manager, that I couldn't shut down
I moved the bf4.exe file to another location, then restarted the computer, put in back in place before launching Origin, and it worked
I hope it helps some of you

Has there been any success in dealing with this issue yet? When (if) my bf4.exe appears in Task Manager, it displays it as "suspended" rather than running and I'm denied access to ending the process.
I still get the classic "ERROR Could not communicate with BF4. Please use the Task Manager to close it down." every time I try to join a server or play the campaign.
I'm running this on Windows 8.1, is there a connection here?
Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz
16GB
Windows 8.1 64-bit
GTX 780m
I've tried Closing it from the task manager, but it still doesn't work.I've also triet rebooting my PC three times with no luck.

I had this problem and fixed it by a simple PC restart.
I think what's happening is when BF4 crashes, it sometimes stays running in your memory and Battlelog thinks it's still running even when it's not in your task manager, so you end up with this error.
A memory flush might fix this for some people...
