Hi @thealmightyjug. Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. I would like to ask you if you have any more information regarding the freezing issue? When did it start happening? How is your PS3s performance on other games? How much free space do you have on your PS3?
Try rebuilding your PS3 Database (don't worry you won't lose any data) as described here: http://www.ps3blog.net/2011/01/28/tips-and-tricks-ps3-rebuild-database-faq-recovery-menu/
This usually fixed PS3 centric problems such as you are experiencing.

Hi there,
I found this thread as I am having the same issue.
My game was new and sealed. I played it for a couple of days without a problem. The first time it happened was between screens loading. Subsequently, it has been as above - on to the menu screen, the 'Press start to begin' appears. You press it, and often it locks up there. Mostly it freezes on the next menu. Either way, the whole PS3 locks up, and you have to restart the system.
When you restart the system, it wants to do a disk check because it stopped suddenly. After doing this a couple of times, you get a bit fed up with it - I have about 20 games, and I've never had this problem with any others.
Unable to play last weekend. It was fine throughout the week, now on Saturday again, it refuses to work.
I have done the database cleanup as detailed, and unfortunately it has had no effect.
Is there a serious bug in the game maybe?

Hi there
I had the same problem, and have found a solution (after much frustration)...
It seems, in my case, the save data for the campaign is the problem somehow. The BACKUP SAVE DATA for Battlefied Hardline has to be deleted . I backed mine up, and tried replacing it, but the problem returned. Unfortunately, it means you lose all campaign progress. I was on episode 9, so very annoying, but at least I can get through to the multiplayer modes now, particularly Hotwire, which was my main reason for buying the game.
A bug in the game looks likely. I like to finish a game, so if I play and get the same problem again, I'll report back.
So, just delete that data, and start the game again, and hopefully it will work.
It's not ideal though - I don't expect to get these sorts of problems, when you pay good money for a game.
Multiplayer data seems to have been preserved however, along with patches and cash etc, so that's something.
I hope this helps (a bit).
Cheers

Forget last post - just crashed on Hotwire.
What a nightmare...
I give up with this game.
