Getting lag spikes all the time

Everytime I play Battlefield 3 I get lag spikes. Where I will start to run forward and immediately return to where I started running from, sometimes when I try changing weapons and I do it will just change back to the previous item. Once I saw my ping shoot up to 1047 from 10.

My PC has the Specs to run this game on Ultra with no lag and my network connection is 30mb, so there should be no lag whatsoever.

I recently returned to the game after the latest DLC came out and ever since I have been lagging and gliding backwards ever since.

Any help would be apprecaited, Thanks!

    Hi obogo!

At first, download and install the latest version of Origin at www.origin.com/download (and make sure you have your Origin account ready as well).
If that doesn’t helped, close the origin client and go directly to you origin folder  C:\Program Files\Origin Games. Run the origin.exe in this folder with a rightclick -> run as administrator.

Add BF3 and Origin to the exception list of your antivirus/firewall software. Launch a match with disabled software protection, just to verify if your software is blocking your application even while disabled (some programs running still from the background).

This worked out in the most cases, if not, try to deactivate your firewall/antivirus software and/or check the online ports of your connection:

    TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
    UDP
    : 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300
For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

Please let us now, if this problem after this workaround still exist.

    Cheers
    Basti

Im using Windows 7, plus origin.exe is not in Origin games but in the Origin folder alone.

I did everything you said I even forwarded the ports, the lag is just the same, but seems to start after one game and doesn't go away when I change servers

Lag spikes affecting every origin online game titan fall and BF4 for me. i'm going to return titan fall if this isn't going to get fixed or is a common problem. i bought the game to play it not have to deal with lag issues. its nothing to do with the current version (because i have it) of the game and or origin. its just EA's services have been pretty **bleep** lately and its a big dissapointment the lack of care you guys give.

your suggestions are terrible just tried everything you said before i posted and nothing works. instead of insisting its your customers fault maybe you should just fix it.

  • in my experience, these can also cause stuttering or laggy gameplay...

    1) an overheating CPU or GPU due to too much dust buildup.  trying using compressed air to dust off your heatsinks.

    2) lack of RAM.  BF3 plays fine with 4GB RAM.  but some newer games, like BF4, need 8GB RAM to avoid stuttering.  [note that to use more than 4GB RAM, you will need a 64 bit Windows.]

Please check to ensure that the Origin in game overlay is not enabled (it is enabled by default) as it is known to cause stuttering and lag issues. If it is enabled disable it, play BF3 and see if the problem persists.

To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings". Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box
