GTX1080Ti low GPU usage and FPS drop

Hello,

I'm experiencing a massive FPS drop in couple of games. For example in Battlefield 1 my GPU can only reach about 40-55fps. A week ago my FPS was by 120-135 at same settings.

My specs are:

GPU: 1080 Ti @ 2038MHz GPU and 6003Mhz Memory (overclocked and water cooled)

CPU: i7 7700k @ 4900MHz (overclocked and water cooled)

RAM: 16GB @ 3733MHz not overclocked

SSD: M.2 960 EVO 256GB (System)

SSD: SATA 850 EVO 1TB

Mainboad: ASUS Z270I Strix

Monitor: with G-SYNC 144Hz

OS: Windows 10 64Bit updated

  • I already tried:
  • update BIOS
  • update Nvidia Driver
  • in energy setting, PCIe at full power (no reduction)
  • shutting down all app running in Background
  • watching the CPU usage (is not expiring 85%) during the games
  • in Nvidia setting shut down Vsync
  • in Nvidia setting performance at full power
  • downgrading Nvidia driver to a version from October. (good old days with no Problems)
  • I did not overclocked anything (stock speeds, reset BIOS) and repeated all the bullet points as above

The strange thing is as I play the GPU usage is by about 40-50% and not more. On the other hand I tried Benchmarks like Heaven and Unigine Superposition and there is my GPU usage at 99%. Also when I play BF1 and set “resolution scale” to 150% the GPU usage is rising up to 98%. I also have the same Problem in games like Witcher 3. But I don't have any problems with The Division stable 90-100 FPS on ultra any time.

Do you have some advise for me, please help.

So, I also tested my "old" GPU and it seems to be OK with FPS - but this was not the solution.

I reinstalled Win 10 yesterday and everysince all is going normal again.

I wish to find other solution also for possible other users with the same problem - sorry.

THX all of you for your support.

  • @PZPL_SnowWhite Give this a try....

    Nvidia BF1 settings ....

First step open Nvidia Control panel under 3D settings go to Adjust image settings with preview

Pick use my preference and set it to performance and hit apply.

Next go to Manage 3D settings, Program settings tab and add BF1

Once BF1 is added in Program settings tab make sure in Adjust image settings with preview is still set it to performance

In game video settings right side set to custom and set everything to low for testing but turn off ....

    1-antialiasing post off
    2-ambient occlusion off

Also make sure GPU memory restriction is OFF

Try it, but no impact on increase of FPS.

The only change is: now is the GPU usage not between 40-50% but 25-30% like something is preventing any more FPS. The GPU power will be not demanded.

I did it, but still no changes. I also uninstall all update since the problem occured. Unfortunately I can't uninstall KB4041994 (Win10 Update).

I realized the graphic of BF1 have more "glitter" since the problem occured.

  • @PZPL_SnowWhite Sadly the issue could well be from the win10 update and in this case nothing can be done or fixed until microsoft does another update to fix the issue.

    a small update:
I could take my old GTX980 Ti and put in my problem PC, I get up to 90fps and good 80-85% GPU usage. It means only the 1080ti is affected. The card is driven "false"

I'm having the same problem here in 2019..

    So reinstall Windows 10?
