I can't play multiplayer

So I just recently purchased a copy of Battlefield 3 on pc and for some reason I can't play multiplayer can anyone help. (I bought it via steam)

    @Revilo721 Have you linked your Origin and Steam accounts? How are you trying to launch the game via Steam or via Battlelog?

I have linked my Steam account to my Origin account, but I launch the game via Origin.  But when I launch it via Steam it won't even open. Is there a step I'm missing?
