Is BF2042 launch going to be the end of BF4 for you?

After we yesterday saw the BF2042 Redacted gaming area with the fully user configurable Server Portal, we need to ask ourselves now:  Why staying with this bug-troubled 7+ year old game?  Granted, we did not yet get BF4 specific maps or soldier loadouts confirmed, but we got so much already of viable alternatives!  And no doubt that the Ripple Effect studio is going to launch even more contents from the greats of BF past chapters!

And we can all play the BF2042 game on our current BF4 platform.  Or some will probably also take the leap up for some new gen consoles or further enhanced gaming PCs.  We have been closer and closer recent years to the end of the road for BF4.  No updates to the client side software now for 3+ years.  EA Support now just lame ducks with near no tools to fix ordinary issues.  A server park that is just scrambling along, with non stop problems of lost connections, high lag, crashes and servers in coma state where not even the rightful owner has any access.

Are you getting ready to migrate?

not for me like others I will probably wait to see what it's like, even if I do get it, BF4 will still get played

    Hahaha @Sabrewulv , @sk1lld , @mrdoom500 ,

something just comes to my mind here now, when reading all of your careful and hesitant replies on being ready to migrate to BF2042 or not just yet...

Personally I probably somewhat naively went straight ahead, all-in, when the BF1 game came out.  But darn, that was a surprising disappointment to me.  So after having spent a few month on trying to convince myself of the impossible 'BF1 is a good game, BF1 is a good game...'  I had to come to terms with it, that it was not a good game for me...  And reverted back to BF4 and had a blast again!

Then came BFV and I thought that it would not be a disastrous repeat of BF1.  EA and all must have observed and learned from BF1, right?  Well obviously I had not, so I went ahead again and happily bought the game at launch.  And....   aargh, it just didnt feel right....  So after a few days I simply folded it away.  Highly disappointed.  And reverted back to BF4 and had a blast again!  :o)

So thinking about it.  In the BF4 community of still BF4 addicted players, we probably have a large population of gamers that went through the disappointments of BF1 and BFV.  Either both of them or just one of them.  And this time around, we want more certainty on the BF2042 being right for us, before we make the jump?

'Once bitten, twice Shy' I think you say in English...  Except here I even got bitten twice.  :o)

So are we BF4 ol'timers the hardest group to convince to spend our money and migrate to BF2042?

Well the Battlefield 4 multiplayer modes are now unplayable because of an error everytime I try to connect to a server. So unless they add Offline Bot Matches the answer is an obvious YES!

What error message do you get @Jesse165  and what platform are you playing on?

The player client software has been hanging for many many players across all platforms here recently, when they try to join a server.  So tend to consider the root cause for this must be somewhere central, either with the user logins or the server configs themselves.  But think we are actually having a few different bugs to handle at the same time, so more difficult than it should be to get the attention from EA and get them to properly fix this serious ongoing issues we have.

Honestly it's really hard to build up love and desire to get started on BF2042, if this is the customer experience we get in return...

I loved BF3. BF4 pulled me away from BF3.   I'm stuck on BF4 as the newer games never really interested me about time travelling back in to the past!   Maybe the year 2042 will be enough to make me power up the time machine - but time will tell....

  • I believe BF4 is here to stay. I played may be 2000 hours of BF3 and once we moved on to BF4 I kind of lost interest in BF3. However I have to say BF4 is very much alive and the pandemic has given it a second or third life. Even after BF 2042 comes out, I know I will still be playing BF4 and I suspect a lot of the community likewise. There's room for the 2 games in my opinion.

    So @Fus10n75 and @gnaffydotty ,

What if we start to get many of the BF4 maps available into the BF2042 portal?

I am also myself very fond of the BF4 gameplay and also disappointed by both BF1 and BFV.   But must also admit that the frequent crashes we experience now with BF4 due to its old age, and the challenge with lagging servers and occasional cheaters/hackers, then moving on to a new up-to-date game while still having access to some of the old love, then this will maybe be the time to move on?

  • There is not a garente that ever map in battlefield games are going to be in 2042 so the best way to experience it is in the original game.

  • @CyberDyme Not at all I will continue to play BF3 and BF4 in their native games even if I can make a reasonable facsimile of them in 2042. Not all maps will be available in 2042, and some experiences simply cannot be replicated in 2042 due to the quirks of the older engine. Now if we can make a reasonable BF2 replacement I'll stop playing BF2 since Refractor era games didn't age nearly as well as Frostbite games.

That would be very welcome news @ragnarok013 !

So you think that we will be able still to rent our BF4 servers for a long foreseeable future?  I was afraid that with all the technical challenges we honestly already face today to keep them just scrambling along, that EA finally would pull the plug on them as soon as the BF2042 Portal seemed solid for the job?

  • @sk1lld Ok everyone I literally just made this profile to inform every battlefield junky out there that it's really a shame that ea would even say they had anything to do with bf2042 I mean jesus man could you make a good battlefield that I can play on my ps5 I mean wth man this game is complete nonsense and such a disappointment for me because I was a solid loyal battlefield player on psn from bad company 2 to hardline and now with this release I'm officially giving up on battlefield I'll never purchase another battlefield game again word
