Everytime I m in a gunfight...I'm whipping out whatever melee weapon I have picked. No matter which BF I'm playing...EVERY damn time and it's so frustrating. I cannot switch from default so that's not a fix. Iv tried button mapping but it too just doesn't work.what can I do.

When you say that you cannot switch from 'default', is that the possibility to switch from default to veteran button layout modes, that you talk about?
I have the same issue as you with often by mistake pulling out the knife when entering the gunfight.
And its most often not pretty the outcomes. ;o)
Apropos: The Untouchables (1987) where Malone, the Sean Connery character, says, “Trust a wop to bring a knife to a gunfight” as he guns down a knife-wielding adversary...
The required spring load pressure on the R3 button is often really too weak and low on some controllers...
So I have simply just switched two of the button functions on the PS4 console (I think you play on console too?)
As I rarely ever uses the knife on purpose. While I find the prone position quite useful and therefor also relevant to assign to the right stick instead, as you use that anyway for your most sensitive soldier movements.
So simply switched the prone function from ROUND button hold to R3, and the melee function from R3 to ROUND button hold function.
The button mapping does work fine in the control settings, if just doing the simple swap of these two alone.
