Mini map is not visible in battlefield 3

AFIAK, there's no console command or available key binding to turn off just the minimap, so if it's missing you may have some corrupted game files.  Before you start freaking out though, make sure you're not just joining servers with Hardcore mode enabled.  Hardcore mode will hide your minimap, as well as health and ammo amounts.

If you know for a fact that you're not playing on Hardcore servers, try verifying your game files by following these steps:

1) Launch Origin

2) From your "My Games" screen, RIGHT-click the BF3 tile

3) Select "Repair Install" from the pop-up menu

4) Wait for Origin to scan for and replace corrupted files if it finds any

5) Connect to a Normal mode server and see if you now have all the proper HUD elements
