I have the same problem, I played the game once after the upgrade but now BF1 displays a black screen. If I tab off it and then return I have the normal game screen but it is unresponsive to any mouse click. However, if I click an option and then Alt+Tab off BF1 and then return, it displays the selected option but the screen is still unresponsive.
I have repaired the game three times and it appears to install some files for about 10-15 secs but this doesn't make any difference. I have an Nvidia 970 and have the latest driver installed.

Renaming the settings folder fixed this for me.

Q: The game crashes after the update (PC)
A: If repairing as mentioned above doesn't do it try resetting your BF1 settings by renaming the settings folder located at:
C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\Battlefield 1\
If this doesn't work try doing a clean boot and then play the game, how is also mentioned above.(please note that renaming your settings folders will make your local save files inaccessible. If you don't have the saves backed up to the cloud, be sure to make a backup of the PROFSAVE filefirst)

Turn off DX12. Keep alt tabbing till you can change to borderless or windowed which fixes the freezing then switch back to DX11 and reboot game.
