[PC] Battlefield 4 Freezes, no choice but to restart

Hello, ive been having this problem for months now. Ive searched everywhere for a solution that would solve my problem. This problem ive seen so many has suffered from. But i also found out a solution for the same problem could or could not work for everyone. I have tried so many things mentioned in various websites or on this forum. None have worked. Although i did not try "solutions" like uninstall game, or uninstall origin, re download games, or even such so called re-installing windows as i think those are not solutions but just a quick way to get rid of whatever is happening that cannot be figured out. Sure, they could solve the problem for me or not, but this doesnt mean it wont happen again because its not really a solution.

I have tried game repair, game setting tweeks such as "borderless window" setting, or lowering game settings etc. But i really didnt wanna go through some of the advanced possible fixed that would require me to set system settings on motherboard(some fixes mentioned this) or even overcloking(i dont know how to do that) because i would have no clue how to reverse that and i really was looking for a fix that was suited for me (a fix depending on my system information, how my cpu temps are etc.)

Now, im not a tech guy, i do know how to check my graphics card model etc. But i wouldnt know how what to do to even fix my fps if i had an fps problem (other than lowering game settings).

For my problem:

Only on BF4, game randomly freezes. PC works, but frozen game is always at front. Nothing can be brought to front. So i have to restart my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5521)

I tried to use EventViewer but i dont understand anything on there. I dont think that tells me what is causing this but only says "Kernel" problem or something like this.

My DxDiag is attached to this post

Thank you for anyone who could help me with this

-Check the minimum system requirements of the game against your computer (Windows/Mac) and update any drivers that are out-of-date.
-Unplug all USB devices (aside from the mouse and keyboard) and try the game again.
-Disable the Origin in-game overlay (IGO).
-To do this, launch the Origin client, then go to the Origin menu, Application Settings, Origin In Game, and then uncheck "Enable Origin In Game."
    -Update the game.
    -Repair the game install.
    -Update your system (Windows/Mac)

Hi, thank you for your reply..

I have done what you said step by step in the order you wrote them. To be honest, only Battlefield 4 game updated something around 97-98MB. Everything else was up to date.

Problem isnt solved unfortunitely. I still get random game freezes and i keep ending up restarting my laptop.

Also, after the BF4 update, now im having stutters. Like as if my graphics cards is not enough. (Settings were always "low")

The quick answer to your problem is that your laptop's integrated GPU the Intel HD 4000 is below the minimum required GPU specs to run BF4.  You can see where your card in the right hand column ranks in the depth chart compared to the minimum spec GPU the Nividia GeForce 8800GT here:  http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

    Battlefield 4 System Requirements

    Minimum:

OS:  Windows Vista SP2 32 bit (with KB971512 Platform Update)

Processor:  AMD Athalon X2 2.8 GHZ, Intel CORE 2 DUO 2.4 GHZ

    Memory:  4 GB

Graphics Card:  AMD Radeon HD 3870, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT

    Graphics Memory:  512 MB

    Hard Drive:

    30 GB

    Recommended:

    OS:  Windows 8 64 Bit

Processor:  AMD Six-Core CPU, Intel Quad-core CPU

    Memory:  8 GB

Graphics Card:  AMD Radeon HD 7870, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

    Graphics Memory:  3 GB

    Hard Drive:  30 GB

    Hello again,

My laptop used to run BF4 without any freezes before. Although i had stutters at some point (usually when my pc is all full of stuff, games etc. I also got an SSD and coppied my windows to new SSD. That fixed the stutters at the time).

I also have a AMD Radeon HD 8730m graphics card. Can i use that instead of Intel?

  • Hello @FoxDie80

try to update drivers on my way 🙂:

    - install all Windows updates, restart PC

    - download dxwebsetup and run/install it as Admin

    - uninstall AMD GPU driver, restart PC

    - download and run as Admin AMD Clean tool, restart PC

    - download and install latest video driver version from this site as Admin, restart PC

    - check that game use the AMD GPU and use "High Performance" mode.

    - check and close\disable all programs like this

    - delete folder C:\Users\[User_name]\Documents\Battlefield 4\ (and don't change ingame video options such as "API graphics" - use DX11, and "Display mode" - use Full screen)

    - run Origin as Admin, try to play...

Yes, you not only can use that card you must use that card to play BF4 as the integrated intel GPU will not run BF4 in a playable state. Go into Crimson or if you're using an earlier driver set switchable graphics and mandate that BF4 only use the HD 8730M card.

Well, before i had SSD to replace my HDD, i was using a driver version (i dont know which) that included an AMD Radeon program to auto check for driver updates and settings for switchable graphics option. I was alwas setting game exe to run on "Best Performance" which would make AMD run those games instead of Intel.

But, after i had SSD setup and had to reinstall drivers, i installed the "correct" driver version for my 8730M graphics card. Therefore, theres no "Crimson" or any other program that came with current graphics driver to set any options.

How else can i set this "Switchable Graphics" option in my laptop so i can make bf4.exe (x64 version) run on AMD card?
