Possible solution to unstable FPS (NVIDIA users)
- Anonymous13 years ago
A nice feature for nvidia users, esp. for those with higher end boards (Kepler): use recent drivers and activate the Frame Rate Limiter option (it works well in combination with adaptive vsync, btw...).
To access this option you need to use either a tool from a gfx board vendor (like EVGA or MSI) or, much preferred!, the NVIDIA Inspector (eg. from here ).
It will stabilize the whole display - and might correct issues with input lag or high temperatures...

some ***update***
In the NVIDIA Control Panel I changed the following:
Power Management Mode: Adaptive (yes, adaptive! I was using Maximum performance and all it did was crash to windows and make my FPS unstable)
Threaded Optimazation: On

Windows Aero: Disabled
Page file: Disabled
How to disable pagefile:

This is my user.cfg file:
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 59.95
Render.DrawFps 0
Render.DrawScreenInfo 0
Render.PerfOverlayEnable 1
Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1
RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 1
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit -1
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 1
Screenshot.Format png
UI.DrawEnable 1
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 1024
My settings ingame : Everything ULTRA + 4x MSAA + HBAO+ Vsync ingame ( no DOF)
for 99% of the time I don't have fps drops, it also depends a bit on the maps.. Gulf of Oman is still a bitch
Rig:
i7 930 @ 4.2Ghz
6GB RAM @ 1603Mhz
Asus P6X58D-E (0602)
Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 2GB @1231/7406
So far it is working insanely good. I can finally enjoy the game and I am not ALT+F4 after couple of minutes. Only FPS drop I noticed was @ Karkand from the US side going through the right side.. that small area there seems to always give me a little problem.
Give it a try and let me know! - 13 years ago
Maybe this is going to help as well

this video could be help as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECIfCJoa8Ag&feature=relmfu
in game open console press ~ and gametime.maxvariablefps 60
"this video shows you how to record/play without any lag.
My fps would drop tons of times in-game thus giving me lag, not anymore.
This only works if your fps never drops below 60." - 13 years ago
well in that video it sais: "This only works if your fps never drops below 60." could be that you need update your pc or even try run it on low grapchics also i saw you have 2048 GB RAM well not good should be 4gb at least i have 8gb also which wins you run 32 or 64 bits?

As n00beris said before, problem is with your RAM,you have only 2GB and BF3 is really a demanding game that requires a minimum of 4GB for best gameplay.
Also as I said before on your post, you have only a Dual Core CPU and BF3 doesn't like Dual Core CPUs,only Quad Core and above.
Try downloading Game Booster program and end tasks in the background to ensure you have as much as RAM free, also if you can, upgrade your RAM to 4GB and CPU to Quad Core.

*****UPDATE******
The Green Flickering - known game related and/or driver issue. You should reinstall your Nvidia drivers CORRECTLY - see this page here
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=1174372&mpage=1#1174372
The green flickering can sometimes actually be caused by a lack of VRAM on your graphics card. Download MSI afterburner or any other software and check to see how much VRAM is being used at your current settings, Also check your GPU tems and... if it's OCed try to clock it down a bit.
So go ahead and download the latest drivers from Nvidia web site for GTX580 GPU and make a clean install(follow the link above) then, if you still have the issue go ahead an lower your MSAA setting in game, that should fix your problem.

I have a good news for NVIDIA graphic card users!!!!!!!!!!
(At least this works for me 100% and still works with no crash!)
I updatet my notebooks drivers to latest - 306.97 and crashing dissapeared. Really!! No crashes to desktop anymore.
I guess this have something to do with vertical synchronization.
Before i had 306.23 driver, crashed all the time like a bitch! So man advices and recommends heard, but none of them worked!
and even EA expert did not mentioned nothing about drivers.....
a lot of texts from them but no sense at all.by
