Re: Bayonet kills in BF1 - Melee or not?

@Game_Thruz

Well, at first....yea the Bayonet is a melee Weapon. But not sure as what it's counting for that what you'r doing right now.

Please tell me what Mission you'r playing, and what Codex Entries you'r trying to do!
What's the requests for them?

Third mission, Fog of War, one codex requires the player to kill all the Germans without raising the alarms, which as I understand it means you have to melee them.  The other codex requires the player to not use any melee attacks.

So I'm wondering if it is possible to do both in one run rather than replaying the level, hopefully by some attack that's a one hit kill and if done right won't alert the other guards, and isn't melee.

I thought the bayonet charge might do it because you're not just whacking someone on the head like a normal melee attack...

    • Fog of War

Forest Combat Codex: Get through the forest without any melee kills.

Guiding Bess Codex: Get through the forest undetected.

Are this two Codex that what you need to do in this mission?

That's exactly the mission and the codexes I'm trying to do.

I figured if the bayonet running kill doesn't count as melee since it doesn't look or act like a normal melee attack it might be possible to get both in a single run, since as long as you bayonet the guards before they see you they don't alert the others.

So just to be clear it doesn't count as melee and so it is possible to get both codexes in a single run?

Oh i thought you tested it, cause of your previous post.

Anyways, i think it's not possible.
Cause i think the Bayonet will count as a melee Weapon. So, as you see on the Codex descriptions below....

•Forest Combat Codex: Get through the forest without any melee kills!

NO melee kills allowed, and if the Bayonet count as melee so it's not possible to do in one run together with the other Codex. Cause you need to fight the enemies offensive.

•Guiding Bess Codex: Get through the forest undetected!

If the enemies shouldn't see you, so you running best with melee kills! But if the Bayonet wouldn't count as melee, you could use that to kill them too. I personally think if it would be able to use the Bayonet, you can not finish it that easy. Cause the Soldier is screaming while the Charge, and the enemies will hear you running.

    My opinion:
Do it in two runs! (Easy Mode) 😉
Any you can try a Bayonet Charge on the mission beginning, and see in your mission menue if it shows that you can't finish that one Codex in this run anymore cause it was a melee kill....or not.
    Then you know it!

Well I just tested it as you said and neither come up with a failure notice in the pause menu.  I was hoping someone from EA or Dice might be able to help tbh that's why I put it under technical - I wantd to know if the attack is coded having a melee tag on it.  NVM I'll just have to do the whole mission and see lol

    Thanks for your help anyway

I don't think it is possible to get both of the codex on a single run through...It can be quite glitchy too!

    Good luck!
