Forum Discussion

I will actually give a couple of cents, but first I wanted to get one thing out of the way... it's not really a good place for BF1 suggestions for a couple of reasons:

1) We are not BF1 developers - we are fellow gamers. Devs don't even visit this site.

2) This point is somewhat connected - this is a tech support forum. Game suggestions aren't our thing.

3) This is a BF4 section - we don't have BF1 section at this point.

For reasons above, such discussion makes more sense on Battlefield forums. However, I really do not believe that changing the phrasing will influence anything. Why? Let me explain:

Horses are one of core aspects of Battlefield 1. As such, they will be a part of many battles in the game, often against heavy equipment. That leads to a logical conslusion - enemies will be shooting at them, both with small arms and heavier weaponary, such as machine guns or cannons. When a horse gets hit by something from that list, especially something like MG or an artillery shell.. you can guess what will happen. Horse gets killed. If someone is really sensitive about animal rights, that fact is going to tick him/her off, no matter if you say that the horse was killed or neutralized. Wording will not matter one bit. Can something be done about it? No, because the role of horses in the game is large enough to make removing them simply impossible at this stage. Removing the bonus would not really make sense either, as a horse still is a valuable asset for both sides, and taking out enemy assets = points. All in all, exactly nothing can be done to satisfy ultra-sensitive people... and, if it was, it would require massive game mechanics change (and then one also has to wonder if it would be fair towards all the other people in the game). On top of that, we have to remember that horses and their deaths were an unseparable part of the Great War...

Ah, and to be fair, I don't remember any loud complaints when other video games had animals that could die from player's actions. To an extent, it happened in a big chunk of games, and in some cases in a way more advanced form (Far Cry games say hello). I don't really see any kind of bigger outrage happening. I am pretty certain that in the end of the day a massive majority of us knows that it's just a game, without a speck of promotion of animal cruelty or anything outrageous like this.

Alas, I also have to close this discussion because it totally doesn't fit this section and, to be fair, this forum. Sorry about that.
