[BF3] Need help coming back to the game after a decade away

So after playing the BF6 beta, I decided to download BF3 after about a decade to relive some high-school nostalgia and have been met with a gutted game that is only accessible from battlelog. I just want to be able to navigate the options menus and change/customize my class in a match. I'm on PC and cannot for the life of me figure out how to switch options menus or even soldier classes mid match. I have tried both an Xbox controller (elite series 2, connected by type-c usb) and mouse and keyboard. I've tried every key on my keyboard and every button on my controller and am completely stumped. Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?

    If you played BF3 on console as I did the switch to PC is jarring. The entire game is run through battlelog. You can boot Campaign and coop and look for servers on there and it should auto launch battle log when you click play on Steam or EA app

    I don't have any launching issues, I can jump in just fine. My problem lies in the fact that I have no discernible way to change the options menu that I'm on to change my control scheme and I also have no way to change what class I spawn as - or even customize my class for that matter. Is there some odd button combination you're supposed to hit to tab through the options or classes?

    For what it is worth, I'm on PC using the EA launcher and EA play subscription, and I had to disable my VPN to get into a multiplayer match
