Re: Microphone not working

I also had this bug. I think I've found a fix.

DETAILS AND SPECS

  • I was unable to be heard over VOIP. My speaker icon would light up when I held down my PTT key, but nobody heard anything.
  • I could hear other people.
  • I had no other unexpected audio problems, except for the "normal" silence bug on Golmud Railway and Lancang Dam.
  • Sometimes, the battlelog config page (http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/settings) would work as expected, and I would be able to hear myself when using the audio loopback to test.
  • Other times, when I opened battlelog, I would get an error toast saying "Could not start voice, try again later." (http://i.imgur.com/iQ8J9cA.jpg)
  • The headset I use is the Logitech G35, a USB headset.
  • All of my graphics and audio drivers were up to date.
  • BF4 is up to date, my battlelog plugin is up to date, and FP is up to date for all browsers.
  • My mic was set to my Default Device and my Default Communication Device in Windows.
  • I participated in the beta, and still had it installed. I did uninstall it while trying to fix this bug, and I suppose that may have contributed to the solution.

THE FIX

  • What eventually worked for me was this:
  • Open up BF4 and start playing.
  • Unplug your USB mic.
  • Plug it back in.
  • Close BF4.
  • Reopen BF4 and start playing again. Do not touch your mic settings on battlelog.

This solved the problem for me. I think the issue stems from your input device selection not being carried over from battlelog to BF4 correctly. By manually removing and adding an input device while the game is open, I think it forces the game to update. This is all conjecture, but it did work for me.
