Re: Origin.exe - Bad Image+One of the game files is corrupted. Please repair install

@monks_reed For anyone to help you fully what windows are you on? From the reading I did on Error code 0xc000012 it is from windows so your best place to start is to run windows built in repair tool. Now do not let this make you smash your head just read it fully and take it slow and I will try my best to help you fix this. The best way and what made me learn PC's is a good old PC error and from the bad comes the good you will learn over time and just take it slow and read fully 🙂 EDIT.... First we make sure windows is good to go then we will move on too next parts of fixing your game 🙂

Test your windows for errors as a clean windows install does not always make a stable windows.

NOTE: Running SFC does not guarantee the crash will not happen, but it will ensure it is not because a windows Dll or file is corrupted in windows.

This works in all windows O/S vista Win7, Win8 , Win8.1 and win 10 windows system file checker :] Copy and past this to note pad and put it on your desktop. As open programs can give you errors when you run this.

sfc /scannow, ever hear of it if not your going to love this, it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them / try to fix them. This little tool as well as the event viewer on a PC saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved me many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows 🙂

-For win7 go to start/ bottom left screen / windows globe .. Right click in search type cmd and right click cmd pick run as administrator.
-For win 8.1 right mouse click start bottom left of screen / windows box and pick command prompt administrator.

1-Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like Origin, Steam etc.

2-Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3-This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4-After its done REBOOT PC and Run sfc /scannow again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5-So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop. If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6-If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format or try repair win 7 :/ But after format or repair and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between them.

NOTE-If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 or win10 then you can run the next few command lines in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ Note: After you run each command line Reboot PC.

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8 & windows 8.1 and win 10

Reboot PC after you run each command line and close programs and web pages.

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-This command line will scan the health of your PC:
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

2-This command line will restore the health of your PC and you don't lose anything on your PC :
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Note: If you get errors with the two command lines above and it cant be fixed with second command line and if you are on windows 8.1. Then use third command line but be warned it could take up to two hrs to fix your PC but it will save you a format. I had a friend test this on a PC with errors when it could not be fixed with second command line. :womanvery-happy:

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8.1 and win 10

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-If restore heath gave you errors then you can always try this command line:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

2-If you get Error 0x800F081F with the restore health scan then run this command line. After you reboot your PC then run third command line to be sure your windows is fully stable.

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

    @2042isNotBF

Sorry for the late reply, but I am pleased to tell you that this was a successfull process that turned up no errors in both of the SFC runs.

Then I ran the health scan "dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth". The health scan did say "The component store is repairable" and afterwards "The operation is completed successfully" I assumed this was an issue to be on the safe side, therefore I ran the following command as you suggested "dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth". This gave another two messages that read "The restore operation completed successfully" and "The operation completed successfully".

I ran the command prompt processes in administrator as I am Windows 10. Just so you know I do have a minimal knowledge on SOME things so if you did need to ask me anything (like about the OS confusion before) I can help there. I was aware of the SFC but and Command Prompt but of course didn't have a clue what to type into it.

Just so you know before I had a chance to do this process I repurchased BF4 in a last ditch effort to try and over write the files etc... This did not work but gave me a copy of the game which I would have needed to purchase at some point anyway.

Anyway, if I am understanding this correctly the processes carried out went well and there shouldn't be an issue, however you are the brains here and I will wait for your response. My apologise if I have screwed things up with the purchase and I can't thank you enough for your response and help. Many thanks, Monks.

  • @monks_reed Yes on any windows it must be run as admin but good no errors now on to the next part to try and fix this for you.

First , make sure all this is up to date even if done in the past please do again to be fully sure....

Latest version of DirectX see this page
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35

Reinstall Microsoft C++ For my game PC's I install both x64 and x86 as it does not hurt the PC

NOTE>>> you need to select the x64 or the x86 file depending on what architecture your computer has. To find this out, Click Start, right click on "Computer" and select "Properties". Under system type is should say "32-Bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System". If 32-bit operating system, download the x86 file, and if 64-bit download the x64 file.

    Go to Punk Buster site
    http://www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

1- Download PB then extract files to your desktop.
    2- Open Punk Buster folder.
3- Click on the PB setup and it will open.
4-Add your BF4 game to punk buster its at the top of Punk Buster.
5-Then update punk buster again at the top of Punk Buster.

    Reboot PC

    Next , do this please....

Re- install origin only not your game just origin.

    1. Uninstall Origin completely from Windows Control Panel.
    2. Reboot your PC. This is important to clear out any lingering registry files or directories.
    3. Download the latest Origin here: http://origin.com/download
    4. Install Origin when done reboot PC

Next... EDIT... I am not a fan of run origin or the game as admin as a few origin updates back it made it act silly for me but it is part of the fix for the error you have, So if it acts up just remove it after if it makes you nuts lol.

    Run the game as Administrator:
Go to the Origin games folder (C:\Program Files (x64)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4) and find Bf4.exe. Right click it and go to PROPERTIES, then COMPATIBILITY and check the box next to RUN THIS PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do the same with BF4_x86.exe as well.

    Run Origin as Administrator:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin and right click on Origin.exe and go to properties. Then go to compatibility tab and check the box next to RUN AS ADMIN.

    Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
    Origin, settings, General

Make Sure BF4 is set to 64bit if your windows is 64bit
1- open origin and go to My Games
2-Right click BF4 and go to Game Properties
3-Under when launching this game set it to x64 and check off disable origin in game.
4- Hit apply REBOOT your PC and then test your BF4

    Reboot PC test BF4

If you still crash see information below....

Try a clean boot : run a Clean Boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/929135 >This should ensure that no programs are interfering in the background.

Below are programs known to make issues in BF4

Disable Mantle if you have it and try Direct X, Turn OFF Anti-Aliasing Deferred in video card settings in game. If you have page file turned off then turn it back on as this can make errors even with 32gigs ram.

Others have said if they uninstall MSI Afterburner issues / crashing is stopped. So if you have this installed remove program and test BF4. Also look at other programs as Asus Game First Service...ROG Game First , Razer synapse, Razer Cortex, Qualcomm Killer Service , Fraps, EVGA Precision, Geforce experience, be sure to turn off the streaming function that is enabled by default ,Raptr, RivaTuner , ASRock eXtreme Tuner, Steam, Skype, aero ,Overwolf extra program in teamspeak and xfire are known to make issues as well. And I am sure more programs not in my list yet turn one off at a time and test BF4.

Uninstall the HD Audio Driver from the video card driver install add/remove programs. This silly thing makes issues in BF4 for some. Reboot then repair BF4 to be safe.

If all this fails to fix it then try this...

    C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\Battlefield 4

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues. Even if its not a new install it is still worth trying as the game cfg could be mucked up.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop for now.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
    3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game. If it fails reboot your PC and run repair game again and test BF4.

    @2042isNotBF

So all is going well, but I have come to the part where you said find (C:\Program Files (x64)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4) Now, when I go to these I only have "Programme Files 86x" despite the fact I am running 64x. However in this file I do have "Origin" and "Origin Games" where I do find a BF4 folder with various BF4 things like "BF4WebHelper" also just "BF4" with no ".exe" though.

I am running on 64x (64 Bit) but these are the only folders I could find. There maybe a chance of a mistake made a long time ago as I only now know that I am 64x not 84x, but I can't think what I may have changed or weather I did even make a change in the past. Should I carry on in this 84x area on the "BF4" (no ".exe") programme. I will wait for your reply.

NOTE : at this point in time I do not have the game installed, I have only bought it off of Origin. (Not sure if you needed to know this or not)

    Thank you, Monks (Matthew)

In one of your steps, you ask me to find a folder called "Program files 64x" but I literally don't have this folder. I only have "program files 84x".

That is the thing. I can't install the game as it says I have it already, and when I try to uninstall that one, it says I just repair it. So I am unable to download it as a broken version of the game is still installed, and I can't uninstall it.

    @2042isNotBF

It did not work. As before when I try to uninstall BF4 it just says "One of the game files is corrupted. Please repair install."

This will sound stupid but is there anyway I can run control panel in admin or something and just forccefully uninstall it? :/

Judging by the "oh boy" I am in deep trouble....

  • @monks_reed lol the oh boy was just me late at night as I hate it when a PC does this stuff lol. A fast google found this to do it as admin but if it is your PC you should be admin anyway but worth a try and good idea..

    http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-run-control-panel-as-administrator-in-windows/

Let me ask this in origin in games does BF4 show up ? If it does lets try what it keeps asking for first....

Open origin / log in and go to games tab

1- Right mouse click on the BF4 game and pick repair game if the game shows lets see if this rebuilds files correct. A small trick I used in origin in the past is run repair game let it do its thing then when done reboot PC and run repair game again.

    @2042isNotBF

So when I go onto Origin it says I have the game but that is because I recently bought this(as I mentioned before). Before re-buying it, I did not have it. Anyway, when I right click it there is no option to repair. But when I click it to play, it takes me to the web browser as normal, etc.. but when I click to join a game it says, download or update the game. BUT as we have already established, it already says I have it installed(which for a fact, i do not. I just have a Icon)

Also running control panel as admin still did not allow me to uninstall my game :/

Is there some details I can have to contact you privately, if you would rather stick to this that is fine(no offence taken) I was just thinking that it may be faster and perhaps easier(I am in the UK, so if we could workout a time that would be great)

  • @monks_reed So lets try this or did you try this already...

EDIT... will it allow you to update BF4 or is it the same as repair game :/

Re- install origin only not your game just origin.

    1. Uninstall Origin completely from Windows Control Panel.
    2. Reboot your PC. This is important to clear out any lingering registry files or directories.
    3. Download the latest Origin here: http://origin.com/download
    4. Install Origin when done reboot PC

After reboot then try to run repair game and or UPdate / update is in same spot as repair game.

I have done this already mate.

How do i reach these messages?

  • @monks_reed 🙂 Look up top right see your name click on down arrow / tab by it and go to / pick  inboox 😉 And no worries I was the same when I first came to this site lol.

EDIT... So give this a try after talking this is what I was thinking of .....

If Origin does not have anything in the My Games list (or other sections), then a file in your cache folder may be corrupted. Clearing your data cache should correct the issue and allow Origin to redownload default files and information.

How to clear your Origin data cache

Note: This will temporarily remove any downloaded material from your Origin cache. The material will be redownloaded when you start Origin again, but if you want to back it up, we have provided steps to do so. You may wish to back up rather than redownload if your Internet connection is slow or limited in some way.

    - Completely exit Origin by clicking File > Exit.

-On your computer, navigate to the following directory: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\Origin

-If you have previously downloaded material that you would like to back up:
1- Right-click the cache folder and choose Rename.
2- Rename this folder to something like cache.BAK.

-If you do not want to back up your files:
1- Right-click the cache folder and choose Delete.
2- A "Confirm Key Delete" window will appear. Choose Yes.

-Restart Origin and log in. If the game materials repopulate the main view screen, then the issue is likely resolved.

-To restore any material you chose to back up:
1- Completely exit Origin by clicking File > Exit.
2- On your computer, navigate to the following directory: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\Origin\cache
There will be a folder with a long string for a name (such as {9C54E810EE0D968BD7C554A06864A495}).
3- Go back to the renamed/backed up cache folder and access the folder with the same alphanumeric name. Move the contents of the backup folder to the newly created cache folder.
Your prior material should now be available when you restart Origin.

NOTE- If an issue persists, you may need to clear this cache folder and redownload any material again.
