Re: Re: Official Battlefield 4 System Requirements

What is your budget for this computer?

Do you want to overclock?

Are you building it yourself or are you looking some pre-made "custom" one?

The one you list would play it above 30fps on ultra, it would play very good with medium-high settings 60fps all day long no drops smooth... that's how I'd play it.. I'd pick no stutter over "OMG it's like I'm there such graphics so wow"... but that is not a system I would pick out for myself as a new gaming computer.  It's worth knowing/considering:  DDR4, Broadwell and GPU die shrinks is not to far away... entry price would be expensive, would not have a good price to performance ratio for first year I'd doubt... new GPUs might though early next year to mid when all of them are 16nm and not 28nm,  sounds like 8xx series is still 28nm dunno yet.. 9xx series will likely quickly replace the 8xx series when it does show up.. dunno 6month life maybe

The price of DDR4 would make 8GB about double price initially guessing, in 1 year DDR3 will be more expensive than DDR4 which will be today's price of DDR3 is also a good bet.

New GPUs would probably be same price ranges as today.. how much benefit 16nm from either AMD or nVidia would be?  Dunno of course.  Been on 28nm for a long time.

Things really haven't changed much in last year or two.  AMD recylced... nVidia recylced... High end CPUs haven't really been bottlenecks for most games for a long time...

I'm going to be saving up for it so $1000-$2000 NZD (New Zealand Dollar) is my price range. It is a custom PC off of a NZ website where they put it all together for you and everything. The default motherboard it comes with only supports DDR3 ram so do you think I should get a better motherboard. If you want I can send you a link to the site and you can tell me which components you would choose.

USD and NZD are pretty close it looks like but I dunno how much components cost over there... I've heard it's much more expensive in austrialia...

I'd go with an Intel CPU.. to save money Xenon 1230v3 is $80USD cheaper than a 4770.... and it's a clone of a 4770 without the iGPU you won't be using anyways (if you stream yourself you might consider the iGPU for quicksync).  If you want to overclock i5 4690k is in same price range ($220~250$ USD) you also would need a decent aftermarket cooler ($30USD and up).

Decent motherboard... I look for Intel Network port... fancy sound chips are nice some have better front panel audio... the style/function of the bios (found from reviews)... if your overclocking you want one that is designed for it.  In USD that'd cost ~100$-$150 for something pretty nice.

Get the biggest darn GPU you can afford...

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

You can get a cheaper CPU if the price lets you go up a series in GPUs... at that point it'd be better in BF4 to go with an AMD card as Mantle shines when the CPU is weak.

** I have a feeling even though USD and NZD have close exchange rate... prices for parts in your area are rediculess ☹️ ☹️ sorry man

AMD CPU + nVidia GPU... It isn't a system I'd buy... I'd do any other combination though.  AMD + AMD, Intel + AMD, Intel + nVidia.  It shouldn't be a problem... but it is not a system I'd consider because that's me.  Seen problems specific with frostbite games and setups like this that I haven't seen have a solution.  I don't look at BF4 forums to often no clue if it has similiar errors as BF:H and PvZ seem to have.

    Would these spec be better?

    CPU: Intel Canyon Core i7 4790K 4.0GHz 8MB

    RAM: Corsair Vengance Pro 8GB

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX760 2GB OverClocked

    Power Supply: CoolerMaster VS-Series 650W

    OS: 8.1 64-Bit

  • Mantel has been giving issues in BF4 and most memory leaks are on AMD cards in BF4 and thank you Woot for posting 😕mileyhappy:

I wouldn't get top of the line CPU and only mediocre GPU.  Do it the other way around.  Perhaps purchasing a GPU + a barebones computer would be cheaper?

*edit*Also if you don't put a proper heatsink on it to overclock, your wasitng a 4790k IMO.

lol thats not bad in my mind you dont want to know what I spent on my rig shaynethomas11 😕mileylol:

I would up the power supply to 1000w if you can afford to hasselman557 just for upgrades down the road, but if you cant not a issue. Do they have any GTX cards with 3 or 4 GB memory? And if they do if its not a big price difference maybe look into it.

I don't understand the pricing of this site...

    I put same mobo

4460 CPU to save money... an unlocked one is wasting money in your case

    Cheapest 8GB of RAM

    SSD + WD Red 1TB

    770 GTX

SeaSonic 650w  (to save money... because it looks like the 750w+ are way to expensive... your prices are CRAZY over there.. a 650w seasonic is better than most brands 750w's I'd say, I google'd and made sure it wasn't a cheap chinese rebrand... it isn't it's high quality seasonic parts)

I went to the next page and it reset half of my choices so I just gave up...

I'm confused by the S12G 650w's pricing... why is it so cheap compared to the others? I don't know.  It's a Gold rated SeaSonic... I guess because it's non-modular but still.

I don't know if you have a Newegg/Amazon/NCIX type online store or a brick and mortar store like MicroCenter... but those prices might be inflated because they are building it for you.

Putting computer parts together is easier than legos.  You literally cannot put things in the wrong spots and theres millions of youtube vidoes showing you how.

I was originally going to buy seperate parts and put them together myself but I was worried that I would get incompatible parts and screw it up. For example I thought that I might buy a case that was too small for the GPU or buy a AMD mother board for a Intel CPU.

Small case building is only place it would get tricky.  My last 3 builds have been in mini-ITX form factor... It can be difficult to work inside small cases and takes longer but even that isn't so bad.

I would strongly encourage you to purchase the parts seperate if it was myself.  There are some barebones (usually includes mobo+case+power) that have decent quality parts but you pay a premium for a quality barebones just like you would through "custom" shops.  A fancy one that comes to mind is the ASRock M8 designed by BMW group.

Watch youtube videos on cases in the form factor your building in (ATX, micro-ATX, Mini-ITX).

Socket type of CPU must match the Mobo.

Xenon 1230v3 here is $80 cheaper than a i7 4770; they are clones.  Xenon lacks the iGPU (not used unless for streaming quicksync) and 100mhz (big whoop).. the Xenon would be a higher 'binned' chip inherently of the xenon name.

The Aniversery edition Pentium is overclockable... it's $70 here plus a $30 aftermarket air cooler... you can overclock it to about 4.7ghz and it won't break a sweat on temps.  Only being a dual-core it hurts it... but it's the best Dual-core only processor you'll ever see.  End of the line for Dual-Cores, G3258 Pentium.  At that point though looking at an AMD with more cores for not to much more... it's something you have to consider... If you want to overclock ALOT and feel like a king.. the Anniversery Edition pentium is a wild ride... could always upgrade it later too... if you burn it in half it's so cheap who cares it was a wild ride :P

Everything will fit Socket 1150 from Intel that's modern/current.

*edit* The three new Devils Canyon chips G3258, 4690k, 4790k need a mobo that specific supports them, usually only z97 boards (i.e. some asus z87's), some others have support too needs to say it specifically.

You can put a mATX inside a regular size Case, it doesn't have to be a mATX.  Since regular plain jane cases are general cheaper.

If the case doesn't have great cooling, you likely want a GPU that has a "Blower" fan versus one that has top-down fans.  That hot air will get outside the case that way.  In well cooled cases, the top-down fans can start to outperform a blower in both noise and temps, but for small cramped cases it would cause even more heat for a tiny cramped space.

    Top-Down Fans example          ------------          Blower

    Watch Youtube videos // Reviews.

Suggest  " LinusTechTips " or " Hardware Canucks"

Find a product Case / Mobo / CPU you can afford... watch a review on it by searching see if they talked about it.

Start by picking out the right Case for you I suppose.  One that suits the price, style, features you want.

    Ways to save money:

-Drop the DVD to save money.  If you have another one or anything else like a laptop... just make ISO's or simply drag and copy the data off of the DVD into a folder.  I rarely have to put a DVD in for games anymore.

-Drop processor down to i5 quad with no hyperthreading.

-650w is plenty for 770 with mild OC if made by SeaSonic or other high quality one; *edit* the case looks like it has good cable management places so a non-modular power supply would save money... with zipties you can make it look nice and hide it in a case that has the room.

    -Get smaller HD

    What I would add

    -SSD

    What I would change.

Either case or GPU style if they offer it.  A blower style would suite that case better because it looks like it has a shield around the GPU and it gets it's air from the bottom (I assume there is a nice removeable filter on it of some sort).  The blower would suck it in and blow it out versus a fan system like that one circulates the air inside the chamber.

The darn pictures were to small.. it doesn't have a chamber around the GPUs... looked like it did... I was picturing the case so much smaller... nevermind that point.

    *edit*

You don't need the 4GB model 770.  It isn't gaining you much if your gaming at 1080 for the forseeable future which most likely you will be right?

So should I downgrade the CPU to i5 and the VRAM to 3GB instead of 4? Also I have a old pc that i can just take the Optical drive out of. I need the drive because some games like BF are big downloads and we don't have unlimited Internet.

"better" as in price yes.. not better as in faster/powerful as the old cart.  But for gaming, the 1-3fps guessing on average you loose from the last cart is not worth it for the difference you just saved IMO.

If you could fit an SSD in it... Idea is you install Windows + a few games on the SSD you play the most.

VS, CX, RM Corsair PSU's aren't very quality I don't think.. heck that isn't even 80+ certified.  Probably fine though if it saves you a ton of money.

Corsair's higher end PSU's are made by Seasonic, just like most brand's "good" ones are made by Seasonic:

    http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_manufacturers

Silverstone usually has above average products if there name is on I think.  I wouldn't be afraid of a Corsair branded one even if it was a lower end model.  Esspecially if your saving $100.  Having good quality capacitors/cooling/modular/design is a "nice to have" not a "must have".  A freebie PSU that comes with a case would be much worse than a low end corsair psu.

I didn't look at the mobo very close but it certainly has less features than the last one.  Some of those features like Overclocking you probably didn't want to mess with anyways... but other features I don't know what you want and what you dont.  If it suits your needs anything will work that's the right socket.

If space is an issue in 6months / year... just purchase another Hard Drive.  I'm partial to RAID/NAS (i.e. WD Reds or Seagate NAS) drives as of the last few years.  They should inherently be a little more resistant to vibrations and overall longevity while still providing similar performance of a standard 7200rpm drive.  You pay a bit of a premium for them to but here the price difference isn't that bad especially if you catch a sale.

    *edit*

The case.  Since the price is lower, I would guess it has less features.  I don't know much about either one, just glanced at features didn't study them closely at all.  Some cases have neat quirks or something that sets them apart... small things from rounded edges, cable management locations/tie locations, design of internals, how easy it to route or not route cables behind the motherboard, how hard drives mount, the fans and ventalation, front USB3.0 ... things like that are the things to consider.  Large cases are generally much more forgiving than a tiny one.. just by being large it'll make it easier to work on and put it together.

I have watched youtube overviews of the case GPU and MotheBoard and the all look very good. I'm not too fussed about it being extremly fast but how well do you think it will run BF4? Also it is a good price range and this is my first gaming pc and first ever 'self-buit' pc. So I think i will get this setup but I am just asking for your opion on it running BF4.

Given driver updates and game updates since those... 1080 at 60fps average isn't going to be a problem even when cranking settings.

I'd set the game to one setting below where it runs good... so it doesn't hiccup ... Cranking the settings to the highests possible with some frame drops that cause some stutter... no thanks.

Game will look about as good as it gets on that setup and be able to hit 60fps 1080 no problem all day long even with high/ultra settings.
