Interesting point. So what if maybe a squad can request the Commander designate them as a Special Operations squad and then he will assign them to those specific additional objectives. That way it's more of a voluntary assignment that the Commander can control what squads do what objectives. Maybe the Commander can see what squads are performing the best in the lobby and can send them a request to be a Special Ops unit (which they can accept or decline). Im still thinking the overall Spec Ops concept is worth exploring but I understand your point that there needs to be more flexibility with who is given those objectives.
Here what I would add. Assign or requested Spec Ops squad could allow a commander to assign that squad a halo drop/high altitude spawn point.
This could also be used to assign other special equipment such as Submarine, Scuba, FAC, IFV or transport copter.
DUDE. YES. That's a great idea! Imagine a Commander setting a SCUBA spawn point where a Spec Ops squad could infiltrate further behind enemy lines by swimming in... Dude, freaking good idea.

Thanks for your feedback! I think it would be a cool addition to the series and add some more depth to team play dynamics. Feel free to add any ideas that you think would make this a viable feature. Currently, the main concern I have is that bitter players who aren't selected by the Commander to be one of the Spec Ops squads would vote to kick the Commander out of spite. I wouldn't want to remove the ability to kick a Commander because some Commanders suck. If you have a solution for this let me know.
- zenn_nme5 years agoSeasoned Ace@CrusaderActual95 Maybe only the top 3 tier squads are eligible for selection? That way it promotes an incentive for squad- and teamplay.
- @zenn_nme Perfect! Exactly, that would motivate squads to play the objective in order to get ranked in the top 3 so that they can get offered a Spec Ops squad slot. Or maybe the top three squads automatically get offered to be a Spec Ops squads but the Commander could veto or disband a squad if they aren't following his directives?
I like the idea, but I dont think it will work IRL. You COULD add an extra class like in BF2 the SPECOP, and let players decide ingame if they wanted to use it and if they wanted to use it in a team. You could then, if a whole squad was playing that kit, give extra xp for "class play" or what ever you would call it.
In BF2 the specop was only really fun because they had grappling hooks and explosives IMO.
The fastpaced gaming of the BF games in general doesnt really promote careful planned games thus the arsenal is already at your disposal in the other classes as I see it.
(silencers, flashbangs and c4).
- @0ld_yell0w all the commander is doing is to assign a spawn point to a squad, it is up to the squad to say what classes they use.
- @0ld_yell0w @DingoKillr I posted this thread on reddit as well and someone actually suggested that idea also. Having a designated class like BF2 would be a good idea, my only hang up with that is everyone in that squad would be running with the same kit instead of having a medic, support, etc. I definitely enjoy hearing people's thoughts on this concept because it's interesting to see how differently people perceive the pace and overall team dynamics in a typical match of Battlefield. The people I play with are usually more about strategy and tactics so I think we'd be predisposed to playing as a Spec Ops squad. But I certainly see your point. I appreciate your addition to the conversation!
And yeah Dingo, again, that's a fantastic idea! Tying the Spec Ops squad to a HALO or amphibious spawn point is genius. Sounds good idea. What if squad leader of spec ops squad would get access to spec ops gear? Others can help him out. Or alternatively everyone would get third gadget slot for timed explosive charges more powerful than regular C4 capable of taking down assets.
- @Teal_Pipo_Fredo Thanks for your comment! I like that idea a lot! Either the squad leader or everyone in the SF squad having additional gadgets would be cool. Something like a grappling hook that can be used to scale structures or more powerful explosives to take assets/structures down are good examples of what I'd like to see. @DingoKillr suggested something similar where the Commander can issue special equipment to the Spec Ops squads. Definitely a solid addition to the overall concept! Thanks for sharing!
I guess you can add jetpacks too for a Special Ops squad.
If BF is going to use current Military equipment, I just saw a bunch of Royal Marines training with jetpacks.
- @DingoKillr yeah the tech is definitely getting there. Although from the sounds of it, DICE isn't going to be including jetpacks in BF6. Maybe of they do a futuristic DLC?
