Support for Legacy Title Progression Transfers

Hey EA, i know all the FAQs regarding cross-platform progression on older titles has been addressed numerous times stating - its simply not possible...

but my $.02 is that seems like a missed opportunity. I know that there is always going to be prioritization driving where dev/support efforts are allocated, but considering the overall lack of trust amongst your player-base it seems like it would be worthwhile to focus some energy on developing tools/processes/policies to enable data migration for loyal fans still interested in playing once-great battlefield titles. With services like battlelog, its obvious that there is an extensive data-model present surrounding these games' progression/unlocks/etc. and as someone who is employed by these exact kinds of data-migration challenges (enterprise software migration) i have a hard time understanding how this problem is impossible to solve - the main issue seems to be driven by politics of priority, and maybe ethical/governance challenges associated with ensuring content isnt granted to those who didnt earn it, as well as a general apathy toward legacy title support/extension.

My observation is that any company who thinks they can secure new customers at a pace that will completely offset the damage of existing customer churn is only gambling on growth/profitability that is uncertain at best, and the investment required to develop a new game that will hopefully  acquire new fans surely dwarfs the cost of building a simple migration utility and launching a marketing campaign that would represent a triumph over a long-standing barrier for legacy players who miss the experiences that battlefield once provided.

what better time to re-capture lost fans from titles like BF3/BF4, than on the march toward launching what is being marketed as their spiritual successor?

this post is in general response to the recently-announced sunset of games like BF3 on legacy consoles, as well as others that may be in a similar situation to me where they simply want to play an old game on a new platform/console without restarting from scratch. For the sunsetting of legacy platform support, it seems like there would be a positive reaction if players were at least able to resume playing on newer consoles with their account progression carrying over - even if not automatic but via a support case or other means. Maybe a controversial opinion but if there was a surcharge for the migration i would be willing to pay a few dollars to have my weapons/attachments rather than re-start the 350+ hrs i spent to get them, provided it help fund/justify the investment in player continuity.

  • Hello theskier1,

I have to agree, that would certainly be welcome. Even though I'm not a console player, I can understand the frustration.

In reality, the chances of this happening are non-existent, the mentioned games have already been shut down on PS3 and Xbox 360.
