Trifire 7970 system hang sound loop

Hello,

I have a asus p8z77-ws, 3770k an 16 gb corsair dominator ram and nexus rx 1.1k gold psu running windows 8.1 64bit and amd 14.1. I currently have three asus 7970 dciit. My problem is that when I enable trifire my pc freezes with some games as soon as they load, the screen freezes and the pc doesn't respond and I get a sound loop. I have to reset the pc to restart. This happens with bf4 and the witcher 2 and 3d mark firestrike. Other games like assassins creed black flag or metro last light and tombraider run fine in trifire. But when I use only one card or crossfire two cards i also have no problems. So basicly with trifire enabled as soon as bf4 is done loading the map my system freezes, while other games run fine in trifire. Does someone else also have this problem or knows a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

  • I feel kinda stupid right now but I found the problem. It turns out to be my gpu memory overclock. I forgot that a overclock can be stable in single or crossfire setup but that the same overclock can be unstable for trifire and that a overclock can be more or less stable depending on the game.

    Thanks for the support

  • I know the 14.1 beta drivers support Crossfire x2 but not sure about x3 have you tried rolling back the drivers?

it may be the case that the new drivers just dont support Trifire .. to go one step further you good leave the drivers and just remove one card to see if ti runs on crossfire (it should no problem)

I suspect its just a driver issue where it doesnt fully support three cards at once ... yet.

  • Thanks for the reply,

2x crossfire works fine only with 3x my pc freezes when bf4 loads a map. I've tried 13.11 beta 9.4 an 9.5 and 13.12 with all those drivers 3x crossfire doesnt work with bf4. but its only with bf4 and witcher 2 and 3dmark firestrike that 3x crossfire gives me a system hang all other games run fine with trifire.

you said that you can't enable crossfire

did try and enable it in CCC when you were on 13.12 did it work then or still freeze? i know the games wont work but does it enable ok when your running 13.12 or still crash? also .. have you ensured all your monitors are connected to the primary card in the primary slot? (assuming you have multiple screens)

when its enable screens connected to other cards wont work they all have to be connected to the same card

also just out of interest have you tried using one monitor only connected to your primary card (again assuming you have multiple screens)
