Unable to launch battlefield 3

For 3 days now I am unable to launch battlefield 3 in anyway shape or form.

I have tried

  • Reinstalling windows
  • Reinstalling different graphics card drivers
  • Reinstalling and downgrading Origin clients
  • Reinstalling battlefiled 3 via retail disc
  • Reinstalling battlefield 3 via download through Origin client
  • Launching manually via double clicking bf3.exe in program files
  • Launching a game mode from battlelog by manually logging into battlelog and clicking on the available actions (this includes single player campaign, joining a friend in game, coop and quick match)
  • Switching web browser from google chrome to internet explorer or firefox
  • Disabling my Kaspersky anti-virus software and repeating the last 3 options.
  • Run Origin in offline mode
  • Manually disconnect Internet connection
  • Selecting repair game from origin
  • Selecting check for game updates from origin
  • Enabling Origin security verification
  • Disabling Origin security verification
  • Disabling Origin in game overlay
  • Disabling Origin cloud storage
  • Running Origin as administrator
  • Running bf3.exe as administrator
  • Running BF3WebHelper.exe as administrator
  • Tried switching to the battlefield 4 battlelog web page and then back to the battlefield 3 battlelog web page (I dont have a copy of bf4 to test). 
  • Complete log out of Origin and battlelog 

The result is always the same.

The observed result is that upon attempting to launch bf3.exe. Origin will load log me in and then do nothing else.  

Repeating this process and viewing taskmanager shows bf3.exe running while Origin loads, after Origin loads bf3.exe is removed from the taskmanager.

Any kind of attempt to launch bf3 manually or via the Origin client results in the same affect.

Launching through manual login to battlelog (while origin is loaded) gives the same affect but with BF3WebHelper.exe running until closed, battlelog gives the usual blue bar telling me its status, this status potentially could continue for seemingly infinite time as it never changes from logging into server or starting campaign.

Closing the blue bar will show the message waiting for game to exit (again for seemingly infinite time though sometimes it does hide).

Forcing BF3WebHelper.exe closed in taskmanager hides the blue status bar.

Attempting to instigate a quick match gives me an instant red status bar showing "Unknown error, please try again later".

Also note that there is no bf3.exe window being loaded or any selectable icon in my task bar despite the time that it shows in task manager.

As far as I can tell no one else is reporting any such issue (none of my friends anyway) though I have found old posts relating to similar issues with various fixes all of which I have tried to no avail however I'm certain that its got something to do with the fact that Origin updated recently, after said update no battlefield 3 games could be launched.

I would greatly value some support to help me.

    I'm running windows 7 as such safe mode will always disable resources that relate to direct X or direct 3D this means that games like bf3 will not work under safe mode at all. Nevertheless I have tried your solution and the same result occurs

    As of 15:32 UTC today the problem appears to be resolved.

    The solution is still ambiguous as I have no way of duplicating the problem but the issue would appear to relate toward game activation and Origin versions.

    What I did:

    1. Uninstall Origin
    2. Download Origin version 9.11.2.10120 – 403336 and install it
    3. Find bf3.exe and right click to properties>>compatibility and select run in compatibility mode windows XP service pack 3
    4. Open the newly installed version of Origin and login
    5. Choose Go offline in Origin menu
    6. Choose battlefield 3 and press play
    7. A window should load regarding game activation asking for your EA login details (it appears to be a dedicated program not a web browser) Enter the details and submit

    **After doing this the campaign mode began to load.**

    1. Closed bf3
    2. I then disabled compatibility mode on bf3.exe
    3. Chose battlefield 3 and pressed play again

    **After doing this the campaign mode began to load.**

    1. Closed bf3
    2. Chose go online on Origin, at this point origin wants to update itself to the latest version and as such allowed it
    3. Selected bf3 from origin and pressed play
    4. Web browser loads to battlelog but tells me that my password and email are wrong so I log in manually
    5. Tested online modes for which there appear to be no problems

    It could just be coincidental that at that point of trying to load bf3 that someone at EA solved my problem on their end but as there is no reply from anyone in support within my inbox I  would doubt this very much.

    We can however take from this that the issue most likely relates toward game activation though the game was already activated before this issue occurred something somewhere was clearly not working on EA’s side.

    Unfortunately I did not check in task manager where that activation window process was loaded from but upon searching my hard drive I found an activation program called activation.exe in the folder path:

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3\Core

    Clicking activation.exe does not do anything at this point in time but if someone else is having the same issue and they can’t get hold of an early version of Origin perhaps they can start with activation.exe.

    Also note that despite bf3 working Origin is still having problems logging me into battlelog as such I must manually log into battlelog even though I'm logged into Origin, this is not a problem but it suggests again that something may be wrong on EA's side.

    1) Use mozilla firefox, if you don't have it, get it

    2) type 'Internet options' in Cortana search bar and open it,--click 'Privacy' & add the Battlelog url  '  https://battlelog.battlefield.com ' to the pop-up blocker exceptions , also add it to your Firefox 

        pop-up blocker exceptions

    3) Add the 'BF3WebHelper.exe" (programfilesx86\OriginGames\Battlefield3 folder) to your 'Allow an app through Firewall'  in Window Network settings

    4) Open your desktop Origin app-sign in  

    5)  Open 'battlelog.battlefield.com' in Firefox. sign in and launch the game from Firefox

    Game will open in an external window so look at your task bar and if you see the soldier, click him to open the game window

    I'm closing this thread to stop it being necroed.

    If you have any issues with Battlefield 3 please make a new topic about the issues you are having and what kind of steps you have tried to solve it.
