Xbox One External Hard Drive, BF4 will not move, copy or fresh install on to.

Hi,

I have an Xbox One with a 4TB external Drive. All my BF4 map packs eyc are on the external drive but my BF4 main installaion is on the Ones internal drive. I have tried to move and copy my BF4 installation onto the external drive but no luck. I have completely uninstalled the game and tried to re-install to the external drive but no luck. My question is, can the main BF4 actually be installed on to an external drive? I have tried all the disconecting from XBLive and installing before the updates try to install etc but no matter how I do it I just cannot get BF4 to install to the external drive and I would rather have the 36GB main istallation on the external rather then clogging up the internal drive. Does BF4 actually support the external drive for the main game installation? all other games move back and forth with no issues. The external drive is a WD "My Book" 4TB USB 3 and has no issues with any other game other than BF4.

Any advice / resolution would be great.

Thanks.

  • lets see if a cold reboot will help. all you need to do is hold the power button on the console 10 seconds. to verify that it worked load up a game (i dont suggest battlefield as thats the game youre trying to move) and a notification should pop up that says syncing. what this will do is clear your system cache. it may not help but its something you can try if you havent already

Hi Deathspnkd thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately I have already tried the cold reboot several times with no luck, I was wondering if BF4 is set to be only installable to the internal drive as default of its programming but in all the searches that I have tried no one else has mentioned this so it is either not a problem for them or no one else has installed it on to an external drive which I doubt as I am sure someone must have done it. It would be nice to get a definite yes / no answer from EA or the BF4 guys as to if it can be installed onto the external.

Nice link with great info - many thanks again - looks like I am going to have to speak to MS and see what they have to say - its an interesting if annoying problem and funny how it only affects BF4 whereas other games that are larger (and smaller) move back and forth with no issues - weird.

  • it could be something that has to do with the console. another speculation might be the save data if it forcing it to stay on the internal hdd thats just my thought there isnt any info to back the idea up. whether they are able to help you figure it out or not post back here ill keep researching for a solution

    EDIT

i found another thing you can try if you havent already

    Clear persistent storage:

    • Press the menu button on your Xbox One controller and select 'Settings'.
    • In the Settings menu, select Disc & Blu-ray settings.
    • From here, select Persistent storage and clear it.

Nope - still no joy even after clearing the persistent storage - worth a try though 😕mileyhappy:

  • on this page http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691088-xbox-one/69672708 6th post someone suggested that the reason the game wouldnt move is because there is an update. now we already know the newest update has been out for a while. is there a way you may delete the update and see if you can move it either before or after the update? the disc may need to be in the drive when attempting
