BFV PC: FPS lower than 40 with high-end PC after I changed video settings

So I've been experiencing a very remarkable issue in Battlefield V. I just got the game last Friday and played it for the first time on Saturday. I really enjoyed myself. The performance of the game was as expected, running pretty smoothly on the standard video settings (which is automatically, but it was basically equal to the High video settings) at about 60-80 FPS, which was fine.

When I tried to push my PC's limits, however, I upped the video settings to Maximum to see how my PC would run it. From the moment I pressed that button, my PC wouldn't run the game over 60 FPS when out of combat, and it wouldn't go over 40 FPS when in combat. This continued as i set my settings back to the original, smoothly-running settings, but i didn't think much of it at the time, as it was the end of my gaming session and I thought it was because my PC had a lot to do at once, as the video settings auto-applied instantly (which is the first time I've ever seen that by the way)

The next day, I started up the game and noticed that the issue wasn't gone, as I expected. Doesn't matter what I try, the game won't go higher than 40 FPS when in combat. This makes it pretty unplayable to me (call me spoiled), and I don't get why it was running smoothly first, and suddenly perform like my old PC. My CPU is constantly running at >90%, which makes you think that my CPU is limiting me, but my CPU is just short of the recommended one (NOT THE MINIMUM ONE! It's a lot stronger than the minimum one) and this still doesn't explain why it ran smoothly the first time. My GPU never runs higher than 70% and my RAM is always at 12GB (out of 16GB), so I don't know how to solve this issue. All suggestions that I haven't tried are welcome. I've contacted support, I will send them a DxDiag report as soon as I'm able to and they will try to help me. Any help is welcome though, maybe I'm overseeing something

My PC specs:

- CPU: Intel Core i7 6700 8C16T @3.40 GHz

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 480 Graphics with 8GB VRAM

- RAM: 16 GB

- Storage: a 250 GB SSD and a 2TB HDD (this one contains BF V, never had any issues with running other BF-games on it)

What I've tried:

- Resetting my video settings (didn't do anything)

- Activating "Run game with DX12" (this only made the loading part of the game 100x slower)

- Disabling "Limit GPU memory" (didn't do anything)

- Enabling "Future Frame Rendering" (didn't do anything)

- Setting my video settings to "Low" (didn't do anything except giving me potato graphics)

- Repairing the game in Origin (didn't do anything)

- Closing all unnecessary running apps on my PC (didn't do anything)

- Deleted the game and will reinstall it this Friday when i get home (result will be posted)

- Contacted support (they will investigate once I've sent them my dxdiag report, result will be posted)

If you have the same problem or any suggestions, please answer on this post to help me and other people that have encountered this issue. Once I'm able to play again, we might get some games on it together 😉

  • It is a nice system but as game requirements are always a bit over anxious, You should start with medium settings on most low setting on some options depending on the AMD driver 'quality' delivery for this BF title. Here is a few steps that might help?

    • -reset BIOS && test with / without XMP on preferably or off if stutter appears
    • -if heard rumors windows version 1909 causes issues with performance > check what version you are on?
    • -perform a windows cleanup:  and select remove shader cash
    • -delete \user\documents\battlefield v\settings folder and restart the game (after next steps)
    • -use a app like ccleaner to fix registry errors and delete old junk files
    • -defragment the HDD or move game to SSD?
    • -try an app like asus gpu tweak II > gaming booster option to disable 90% of background apps
