Well absolutely nobody is trying to help you. I wish I knew what was happening and could help you. The only thing I could suggest is uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that helps. If it were just crashing to desktop that would be one thing but losing your config is the weird part. That should be stored right through EA.
Sometimes the EA moderators will only jump in when something is making EA look bad and is getting some traction. Where your post is 2 days on it and nobody said anything this is probably the case. I don't think that they do it with any ill intent but with minimal interest. They are probably not getting paid to do this and likely have a paid job as well so I don't blame them so much as EA themselves for being so cheap. I myself have spent between $1000 - $2000 with them since the mid ninties and all I ever get from them are threats if I try to bring up their lack of action on things. When I try official contact channels I get absolutley no response. Ever. Since my first issue with Need For Speed II SE. They have never once tried to help me with a problem. The forums have "tried" by insinuating that I have an issue with my system or my ISP when it is not the case. At least that is something I guess
Anyway. Try the reinstall and see if it helps. If not I hope someone can help
