My 3 BFV changes from 106 hours BETA gameplay

I'm no pro-gamer, not a streamer, but I acquired the pickaxe in your bfv beta so I think that gives me room to speak. I have been waiting a decade for battlefield V, it's all about the priceless moments:

1. Blowing a bridge with c4 when players are crossing
2. shooting an anti tank mine in a hallway when someone comes
3. parachuting from 1,000 feet/reaching max fall velocity before pulling chute
4. Multikill road kill
5. driving a halftrack along the coastline of narvik
6. swimming pistol kills
7. 6 kills in two shots with artillery
8. 500+ meter sniper kill
9. Coastline narvik artillery kill on the snowing hill is one of the most beautiful scences I created in my 106 hours of beta play.
10. I found two secret rooms on rotterdam (one of them is probably repeated throughout the map, it's very hard to get to behind barbed wire stairs and broken case at the top, I only made the jump a few times). And, the the room overlooking B resupply ammo which is a much easier jump across the alley from the main house.
11. Driving a tank into the B house (through the wall)
12. jumping off the upper bridge of rotterdam into the canal and diving under to escape.
13. Countersniping with a shotgun
14. The halftrack horn (fun detail)
15. kamikaze multikills and pilot has 100 life?
16. parachuting onto crane rafters over F and roof on B of narvik
17. kills with standing machine gun
18. parachuting in and hitting an enemy with the grenade launcher
19. Rigging a vehicle with explosives, driving into an enemy location, jumping out and detonating for multikill

Dice, whether or not you realize it, this game was made for me. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I just turned 30 years old, I have been gaming online since I was 8 years old on Diablo 1 and starcraft with an AOL connection. When I was 13 I began playing counterstrike competitively and played amongst players who were in top teams, 3D, CoL, who went on to continue professionally. While I loved counterstrike for the beautiful physics of it as a shooter, I was addicted to it for its competitiveness. Battlefield 2 I luckily afforded an opportunity to play competitively in a lan versus lan competition but that was my only experience in any formal play on that game. While I did not play bf2 nearly as much as other games because of my addiction to competitive play, it has always and will always be my favorite style of shooter game. Long ago I dreamed that you would take the format would eventually improve the gunplay to rival its competitiors suchas CoD and I think that it's nearly there. It still seems like a stretch to imagine the game played in competition with so many players required to fill a roster, but I hope one day the series is there, perhaps after VR really takes off?

I love your game, I believe it is what I've been waiting for from your series since bf2, I did not play the last two releases. I'm only going to mention the concerns that are most important to me:

1. My favorite thing to do from the bf2 days was parachuting in with a grenade launcher and hitting someone while you're dropping, I remember even being able to get kills with burst fire before landing, I am very grateful that this was quickly enabled following the alpha. I'm a little sad that planes don't have a runway to take off on, that was really fun, especially laying c4 on them and waiting for someone to fly away, then just choosing your moment. I do like the new spawn mechanics and game play.

2. My single biggest concern revolves around footsteps, surely, this is a hotly debated topic across first person shooters. Currently, the game has normal walk, sprint, crouch walk, crouch sprint, but there is no 'creep' or walk silently. When I brought this concern up on a server I was met with hostility (gotta love american gaming community nowadays). The player expressed that it would encourage walking everywhere and less squad play, I quickly told him to * off and that he is wrong. It's so crucial that you're able to move silently without crouching, I know it's not Rainbow 6 but the game is detail oriented. It has come SO far to being a near perfect replica of the best gunplay from any FPS game, CoD has gone past the point of realism and is in my opinion full arcade (you never go full arcade). Obviously, as a former counter-strike addict, I feel more comfortable walking than sprinting at all times. But I played the beta, lack of squad play was not an issue and if anything, it gets pretty old just sprinting from point to point over and over... Walking could serve to make that whole notion less boring. Think about it strategically, if 4 one team is moving towards a point down an alley with what's now available, walking like a marching band, and another team meets them head on in a full sprint, Who's going to win? Well, who the * knows they're both idiots. However, if one of squads values their lives and is willing to walk towards that enemy point down that alley opposed to sprint, if they silence the marching band, and sacrifice that little bit of time to maintain readiness in a rainbow 6, counterstrike style FPS then hey, we know who's gonna win that.

3. The halftrack gunner needs to be able to crouch. By the end of the beta I was absolutely addicted to the halftrack, *... I miss it already. Sometimes, especially on the american servers, I would cap tons of points but overall still be at a deficit driving the halftrack cause players just spawn in over and over and die instantly to a medic because they're so exposed and can't do anything about it. The halftrack is one of the most fun squad elements I experienced and I made an effort to get a variety of experiences, as I mentioned. Those poor * need to be able to crouch, their legs are in the halftrack... but they cant duck down?

4. The * little gokart thing whatever that is, jesus christ, do I even have to say anything? I mean I always loved strapping bombs to vehicles but you'd thing that in alpha testing someone would have mentioned that it's a little too easy to be killed while driving it? I mean, you might as well throw in a bunch of motorcycles or, why not a bicycle that a player can drive that goes 20mph if they reach full pedal velocity? A bicycle, if it was a two-seater, would be as useful as that go-kart was, strategically. I'm not saying turn it into an armored car but when I drive 30mph at a * and they shoot at me and I die and it just rolls to a stop at their feet, I'm a little disappointed. Give it a shield atleast, make it so you have to hit it with an rpg or from the side or the back.... Also, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, perhaps you could make it handle so that it doesnt feel like you're constantly driving on ice? Granted, I'm from Florida so I have no idea what driving on ice is like, good luck with that.

Honestly, I'm full of great ideas, little tweaks and things that could improve the game. Perhaps someone will see this and I'll hear back and be encouraged to write again. I'm not some reddit * or some scrub *, I don't do this * a lot. However, I literally have been waiting 10 years for the game to evolve into what it is now. IDC how old I am, I'll be playing it on VR this year, I bought a new PC because of your game.

With all sincerty, keep up the great work.

  • I would like to add that I personally found the rain on Rotterdam to be the most beautiful weather effect. I would like to see the rain turned up to monsoon level that obscures vision like the fog. The rain is truly one of the most wonderful visual effects in your game, when it's raining on Rotterdam, I just want to find a corner and [Comment Removed - Admin.]

And one more thing, If anyone from DICE or on this forum played counterstrike, there was a map called cs_jungle. It was really unlike and CS map, it was huge with this enormous valley and many trees/shrubs that gave the effect of a jungle. I know we're dealing with WW2 here but I have to acknowledge something since I'm pretending that DICE will see this. I have always wanted to play a game like BFV on a map like straight out of Vietnam, some deep jungle forest map * with napalm and all that hell yeah. Oh yeah, and snipers could climb trees? That sounds fun.

Anyways, great game, I will likely spend years of my life playing it, hahahah.
