[PS4] Squad Creation overlay pops up when aiming or shooting

Appreciate help as this may be my own PEBKAC. Occasionally (I can’t consistently recreate it) the Squad Creation overlay will pop up when I am in the middle of shooting or ADS. I see it in the bottom right with the “R2” prompt on the Squad and Deploy screens but this remains when I am in game. So as soon as I shoot (R2) the screen pops up and then “sticks”. I can back out of it with “O” but it never goes away completely; as soon as I shoot it comes back. The only fix I’ve found is to redeploy/die and hope it doesn’t come back. As I said, it’s inconsistent. Redeploying/dieting does not consistently fix it. I am not trying to create a squad while in redeploy etc. or hitting R2, the screen prompt just stays as I spawn in. It’s created many a death for me. Appreciate help thanks!

So I’ve been trying to consistently recreate this STILL. No luck.

It’s not limited to any particular generation of PS4 controller.

It occurs more often as Axis, but it does happen occasionally as an Ally.

It tends to happen if I’ve entered the pause menu during a match (to view assignments, scoreboard etc). But it does NOT happen immediately after I exit pause, it occurs later.

It seems to be tied to longer R2 trigger press or harder press. But even that I can’t get to work consistently.

Put the 2 previous items together (enter pause menu, later a hard trigger press) and it happens 25-50% of the time.

I have something of a work-around though. I can at least make this work consistently. If the pop-up appears, I have to click Back on it, then go to the pause menu and then unpause. If the overlay stays, then I have
    repeat pause/unpause. Slowly.

Once the overlay has appeared in a match, it is near 100% likely to return on a hard trigger press.

This resets when the next round loads. And the likelihood is back to normal 25-50%.

I am going to be switching my aim/shooting buttons to the bumpers, since those don’t have trigger spring delays and I want to feel that difference. I expect it will happen less since I’ll be using the triggers less? Not really a solution I know. But something. Is it related to those springs? Idk.

Continuing to strive to consistently recreate the issue.

  • Hey @BeyondDream8176

I haven't seen anyone else report this yet. What I might want to try is a reinstall of the game when you don't plan to play it for a little bit to see if that corrects this.

    • Are you using a custom PlayStation controller that's not manufactured directly from Sony? I've seen some strange things happen with the copy cat controllers.
    • Do you have the game installed on an external hard drive?
    • What type of PlayStation 4 do you have?
    • Does this happen on box Axis and Allies?

    Thanks for the heads up!

  • Thank you for helping out with this. I haven’t seen anyone else mention it either from my searches. I wish I could consistently recreate it.

From what I’ve seen since, the overlay stays onscreen from the deploy screen or if I pause during a match and doesn’t go away until I return to map deploy (it stays if I respawn from the squad deploy screen)

I’ve reinstalled the game. Still occurring.

I am using official Sony DSP controllers. I have 6. They are different gens. I will try to pay attention to if it limited to a certain gen.

My PS4 is first gen, 500GB. I also play on a week-old PS4 Slim 1TB and it does it there too.

The game is installed on system storage on both systems.

I will Pay attention to the faction when it happens. Didn’t think about this.

Again, thanks for your help with this!

Thank you for the detailed bug report @BeyondDream8176

I'm going to mark your workaround as a solution so others can see how to get rid of it in the event it occurs. Appreciate all the help!

  • Cool thanks. Glad to be of help! I know it’s not really a solution or an identified bug, but at least it’s a work-around that works consistently.
