I gave up on the mastery assignments long, long ago as I found trying to complete them was spoiling my enjoyment of the game. At the time I felt it was a good decision as I started enjoying the game a bit more, and I preferred the look of the Proficiency skins anyway.
I can see where Dice were coming from with the Mastery assignments but I think they just made a few of them a bit too tricky.
