Re: Game crashing to Desktop without any notification.

@Toolguns @groundedjet @Hyperplasia I have a new build and was getting the  Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\KERNELBASE.dll error the easy fix for me  was doing a clean boot but sadly this did not last long for me, Edit 2.... so I did another format to test .  EDIT>>> On a side note my other game rig I did a manual OC on CPU and ram as well as a OC on GPU and BFV does not crash at all on that rig. If its a stable OC it will not make any issues in BFV. If your XMP is click and go in your bios its not the problem or should not be. If you have a new  CPU and MB with XMP 1 and XMP 2 you may need to fix the volts / timings. But a stable OC will not make BFV crash.

To clean boot your PC please see this link ... https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type "command" in the search box.

3. Hold CTRL + Shift on your keyboard and click on Command Prompt. This will open it with admin privileges.

4. Click Yes on the permission dialog box.

5. Type and enter this command: regsvr32 /u KernelBase.dll. This will unregister the file.

6. Type and enter this command: regsvr32 /i KernelBase.dll. This will register the file.

Reboot PC If it gave errors good chance its just due to a conflict from another program and the clean boot is your best bet to try.

  • I actually think these new crashes (i get it in BF1, dont have BFV), are due to the latest Windows 10 update, introducing Reptoline to mitigate the performance decrease introduced by the Specter variant 2, or something.

I heard the new update affects gaming performance, instead of increasing them, and also messes with the kernalbase.dll file addressing, hence i seriously suspect it.

Well, at least MS are aware, question is what are they going to do about it.

  • @kTempl4r It sure would not be a shock if it came from Microsoft :/ I looked it up if anyone wants to test and remove it KB4482887 see link below...Edit I did a format on my game rig and set it back up  and got hit with KernalBase dll error testing BFV so I removed  KB4482887 and will see if I get hit again.

    Symptom Workaround

After installing this update, Internet Explorer 11 may have authentication issues. This occurs when two or more people use the same user account for multiple, concurrent login sessions on the same Windows Server machine, including Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and Terminal Server logons. Symptoms reported by customers include, but may not be limited to:

    • Cache size and location show zero or empty.
    • Keyboard shortcuts may not work properly.
    • Webpages may intermittently fail to load or render correctly.
    • Issues with credential prompts.
    • Issues when downloading files.

Create unique user accounts so that two people don’t share the same user account when logging on to a Windows Server machine. Additionally, disable multiple RDP sessions for a single user account for a specific Windows Server.

  • I removed that update and guess what, the game keeps crashing. Im on the 1809 build.

Perhaps it's not totally reverting when uninstalled.

Perhaps it's  due to NVIDIA latest drivers released a few days ago?

  • Todays 4/4/2019 update fixed the crashing to desktop with DLSS, but 1 second stutters still occur with DXR. It seems to happen more than once early in the match. I meet PC requirements.
