ive been stuck with the default one forever, even if i try to equip ones ive had for years i cant change it, medic commander, medic recruit, medic veteran, everything. is there any fix or is it just stuck like that until the game has its servers shutdown

https://companion.battlefield.com/companion/login and try to change your dog tags. For me worked every time for BF4 or Hardline. Give it a try. Change it in BF1 companion and it will appear in BF V also.

It's an old bug that Dice wasn't able to fix, and it likely won't be now that the live service has finished, unfortunately.
