Coaches trust and depth chart?

Does the coach’s trust and depth chart not mean anything? I’ve made several builds from 2 to 5 stars with different positions, and everytime I’ve worked my way to the starter spot, get bench for a whole half for my backup… Doesn’t matter if the play was good or bad, the stats I have , my is higher overall, or 10,000+ coach’s trust over my backup….
