Team Builder - improvements not bugs

Hi whilst we are all waiting on EA to fix team builder so that it actually works, I just thought we could also make a thread of ideas for small adjustments that would imrprove it. Aiming to try and keep this thread constructive and positive rather than negative.

I like many others have been super irritated not being able to use team builder properly at all this first week due to the technical issues but assuming they are fixed soon I will then just be so happy to have CFB back.

I’ll start with a few things…

Location : nonUS Specific

When you set a location for a team as non US this an appreciatied thing because we used to have to chose a US state to submit back in previous iterations and it’s better to be able to say international.

That said, would be great if they added a free text field for non US to be able to type a place, or even just a country selection (if they want to protect against teams being from Uranus etc)

Climate

This is connected to above. I assume when you chose an American state for your team rules for the climate they will be playing in are applied to suit the state. It would be good to have a drop down to be able to chose for your new team. Either just for ‘non US’ or as an override for any location. I wouldn’t mind if it’s choosing a US state to grab weather conditions from, or a genetic choice ‘very cold, cold, temperate, desert, tropical’ etc. But seems a shame to have dynamic weather in the game but then not be able to make the most of it

UX

One UX issue that I have is that the majority of functions in team builder require you to select ‘apply’ after a decision has been made, and you get trained to work that way, but then others you select and then have to press the cross button in top right to close, with no apply button. It just makes it a bit jarring and I’ve lost changes by pressing the close button on screens that require an apply because of the disconnect.

Player Names

It would be much easier to edit player names with a keyboard on the team builder site (when it eventually works) than taking it to the console. Would love if they enabled this. I’m guessing there may be commercial reasons why not but just listing it here anyway.

  • Hmm.. an actual app instead of a website that constantly crashes would be cool. Then maybe you could use your phone to do it. Rather then screaming at a laptop.

Hmm choose a  mascot , fight song.. would be awesome or your own turnover celebration.  But seriously right now I just want the chrome helmets to actually work and a field to play on instead of my home stadium being a literal black hole..

Pretty sure at one time I was able to place teams in Canada. I know I had a Canadian school created. Or was I playing a 2K game back in the day and getting confused? I do know that you got to see a map and actually place the location of your school on the map. If I couldn't put it in Canada, maybe I just put it as close as I could. It's been a few years.

Pretty sure the game I recall didn't force me to replace a school with a created one. I was able to create independent schools and they'd eventually get a conference invite. At that point, the game I believe would choose one school from that conference to go independent. With today's tech and such, it would be cool to create indy schools and get invites and then the conference simply grows by one.

Back then where we chose to put our school was reflected in weather and pipelines and such. Because we didn't have to replace a school, we weren't forced (which I still don't understand the logic there) to absorb whatever characteristics of a random school that really has nothing to do with us or in many cases, is located nowhere near where our school is.

I would love more freedom though with the nonUS option. I was going to create a team in PR, but I don't like the generic aspect of nonUS.

I'm also wondering if Teambuilder is actually worth it when we have so much less control over our creation than we did even 15 years ago. Less jersey control. Less stadium control. Less location control. And the fact that as of right now you can't do an offline Dynasty with your teams is still baffling. I loved to create a bunch of teams and then play and recruit as them all. I don't need online access for that. And this isn't to avoid an XBOX Live membership as I already pay for that to play with my friends and family online.

There are a lot of things that need added to Teambuilder on top of fixing the issues that prevent many from even being able to create a school. Hopefully much of this is remedied in the near future. If it's not, EA will probably have seen its last penny from me. They announced the return of college football about 3 years ago. The fact that there are still so many problems and that Teambuilder was better a decade ago than it is now just doesn't make sense and doesn't leave one feeling like there's much hope for the future of this game. Which is sad, because I actually like the game play. I just don't like any of the actual schools in college football.
