It plainly says as a bonus star to "throw a passing td in 6 plays" which I have done several times and it refuses to register. Even if I do it in 2 plays it still doesnt count. Absolutely ridiculous ...

Finally beat it. I had 12 points after 5 plays and threw a 15 yard TD on my 6th play to land on exactly 20 points (2 point catch + 6 point TD).
I picked up 10 points via run on my first 4 plays then hit a short pass to get to 12, followed by the winning TD.
I honestly think this game mode is a matter of trial and error and you just have to get lucky
