Overtime Glitch

Just finished playing a friend in online H2H. He scored with no time left to tie the game. On the PAT, I roughed the kicker, he accepted, and the kick, which was good, counted. He gets the ball first in overtime, and he started out on the 50 yard line. He failed to score, I got the ball on the 25, and scored to win. Anyone had this happen? Why did he start OT on the 50 yard line?
