Player position changes screws up skill caps

I just noticed this but DO NOT CHANGE ANY PLAYERS POSITION AFTER THE SEASON.  I had transferred a 5 star elite LEDG to REDG and they went from zero skill caps to so many skill caps like I basically recruited a 3 star normal rate player.  Thanks a lot EA.  This needs to be fixed ASAPwith fixing all previous position transfers.  I don’t know how you would do it but give us a break.  The game is not enjoyable at all in its current state.  Ball snap issue even though there is a work around in most cases with OL options, can’t change existing player numbers, can’t do in season position changes, post season position changes screw up the player progression for worse, dealbreaker for playing style is way off, playing time deal breaker is way too strict for recruiting new players, can’t do free practice in dynasty with multiple users so can’t try out playbooks and make favorite plays, I don’t care about this as much but my son is young and plays on freshman to learn and he said he misses that the edge rushers were able to not go off sides in 2025 but now they do, I don’t know about that one being a big problem for most players but he wants me to bring it up because that’s a feature he wants turned on.   Just seems like EA didn’t pay at all for beta testing and letting pre orders do all the heavy lifting.   I will have to go back to 2025 because if you can’t change player positions without this huge penalty it’s not worth it.  I screwed up about 25-30 players skill caps after the season as I switched a ton of new recruits and existing players and the whole first year was a waste.

This issue is a deal breaker for me. If my roster gets penalized with skill caps for moving Athletes around or changing sides from right to left in the same position group, there is no point in buying this game. I only play dynasty mode and will stick with CFB 25. Here is a YouTube video of the issue:

I’m glad others are taking notice, I wish I would have seen that video before I did it myself but this is absolutely insane if this is EA’s way of preventing cheese.  I’ve always thought it was stupid you have to recruit specific LDE and RDE, I can actually see WILL and SAM line backers as they have different roles in one is more of a pass protection and other run stop, but come on. Same with LG and Rg or LT or RT.  I move those players around each year to balance my roster.  I also constantly change players from safety positions and CB.

  • Possibly the most game breaking bug there is in this entire game and that’s saying something because it’s EA we are talking about here…

  • This breaks the game. Players change positions all the time in college. Jason Kelce started off as a linebacker in college. Travis Hunter played both ways just last year. It doesn't cap their skill, in fact, many times players thrive after changing positions. EA NEEDS to fix this ASAP

Completely game breaking because ATH are useless. Once you change their position once they are dev capped everywhere.

    This needs to be fixed.

I tested this twice and didn't see the skill cap issue. For an interim workaround, if you don't change the ATH position and let the computer place the recruit into the position they're showing with recruiting, it doesn't appear to impose the massive cap changes to the player. Again, only tested this twice with two different players, but I didn't see any ridiculous skill caps after keeping the ATH as an ATH and advancing to the next week. Of course this means the ATH is only going to be able to play at their first assigned position, but at least the skill caps were left untouched.

And now it looks like you can cheese the game by switching players archetypes or positions when they are JR/SR's into making a 80's overall player into a 90's overall monster without doing much at all. The video will show this around the 7 or 8 minute mark. Basically no point in getting coach archetypes to improve players now.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Skill Caps with us here on the Forums.

I wanted to drop in and let you know that we recently made a change to how Skill Caps work with position changes. From now on you should no longer see a Skill Cap penalty if you're changing a player's position within the same position group. Check out the Update Notes post linked below for the full details:

    Dynasty Updates | July 17th

Let us know what you think once you've had the chance to give this a shot in-game. Thanks again!

Thanks for the update Kent. This video shows the other issue of uncapping traits by switching traits or positions is still possible. At the 10:40 mark this RB uncapped his speed by switching to and back from CB.
