Punting on 4th down

I haven’t been playing online for a little while but when I was, I noticed that almost everyone would go for it on 4th down. No matter what the situation was, even when backed up on their own side of the field.

I have an idea. What if EA brought back “Fair play” settings like they had on the PS2 online h2h games. This would force players to punt when they were on their own side of the field on 4th down.

However, I think it would be cool if each player could override that setting 2 times a game. So, you would save those for times when it really mattered or when it was 4th and short.

Or another idea would be that you could go for it when it was 4th and 3 or less.

In real football if a coach wants to go for it on 4th and 18 from his own 1 he can.

Tha usually also tells you who’s serious about playing, because when they don’t make it those are the ones who usually check out early.

  • Good point. I’ve been noticing times when coaches go for it on fourth on their own side of the field and it’s surprising. I believe Alabama did against Indiana. BYU did against Texas Tech.
