a required security module cannot be activated. this program cannot be executed

Hi everyone,

I'm getting the error "a required security module cannot be activated. this program cannot be executed (8016)" after installing Red Alert 3 on my New Windows 10 (64x) enterprise edition laptop. Here is the details

HP Laptop Model: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab284tx

Processor: Intel Core i7 6th Gen

RAM: 4GB

Video Card: Nvidia 940m 2 GB

Bios: InsydeH2O

I Badly need some help

Is this the DVD version of the game or the Origin digital download version?

The DVD version will have problems due to Microsoft decommissioning the SecuROM DRM system. An easy workaround is to redeem the game's serial on an Origin account, which gives you access to the digital download version.

@Nyerguds Thank you for your help. Yes I got the DVD disc and the original product key. How will I be able to redeem it the game's serial on an Origin account to download it? Can you send me an instruction?

Really, have people forgotten how to google? It's really not hard...

Anyway. In the Origin client program, open the "Origin" menu and select "Add Game". Then, choose "Redeem Product Code" and enter your game serial. The product should be added to your Origin library.

This works for all EA products that exist as single products on Origin.

@River2713 Depends how old. As I said, it only works for games that are available, as separate products, on the Origin store. This immediately excludes all the C&C classics that only exist in The ultimate Collection. I redeemed my Mirror's Edge this way, though 🙂

  • Hi there,

I have the same issue, but i buy and download the games from this stupid origin platforme. All my RA3 and C&C don't work. The only one i could launch is c&c4 !!!!I try to contact the support but no answear at the time.

Don't say "all". I know for a fact the oldest games have no such error messages. Which games specifically do you have problems with?

I too have this problem, Red Alert 3 wont work on my recently upgraded windows 10 computer. I have an original (legit) disc version, I uninstalled it and downloaded + reinstalled it through Origin, but the same error message comes up on game launch

A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (8016).

I have tried various compatibility modes, run as administrator, reduced resolution, 8 & 16 bit colour settings, but nothing has worked thus far. The game is fully patched up to the current updates.
