I don't have much clue about Generals, but what does the -w do? Is it window mode?
Not sure. The official launchers pass notoriously few parameters on to the game. It might be a parameter for the game launcher itself...

If it turns out to be window mode then it should be possible to run the game in full screen too with a tiny fix... it might be the same problem as the older games have

online is broken only way u can play online is if u use hamachi or use a 3rd party launcher mod which it is out there.
