CNC 3 TW Directx Error

Hi everyone!

I just wiped my pc clean and so I needed to reinstall my games.

I installed CnC 3 Tiberium Wars through Origin (the ultimate collection version) and I can't start it.

The laucher starts and asks me to choose tiberium wars or Kane's Wrath.

And I can choose ether but I always have the same error. I need to install Directx 9 or higher.

And I did... And still the same error. I also deinstalled and reinstalled the game, tried (unsuccessfuly) to start in windowed mode updated everything I could think of and nothing.

(Just for info, I'm on windows 10.)

Does anyone have any idea it'd be great!

The "or higher" is misleading; it specifically needs DirectX 9. So just updating DirectX to the latest version will do nothing. The game can't actually use the DirectX 10/11/12 that is installed on windows machines by default nowadays.

    • Download the DirectX Redistributables package from June 2010. Be sure to uncheck any other junk they want to add to it. It should be a file called "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe".
    • Run the downloaded file. It'll ask for a folder to unpack in. Make a new folder somewhere on your disk and unpack it there. It doesn't matter where you unpack it; it can be deleted afterwards anyway.
    • Go to the folder where you told it to extract.
    • Find "DXSETUP.exe", and run that to install the missing components.
    • After the installation finished, delete the folder you unpacked everything in.

Since this is a completely separate thing, it will not interfere with your installed higher-version DirectX.

  • I am having the same problem. I have done the downloads and install, but I am still getting the error.

@sirwaynathan hi I just bought the collection to play generals and zero hour. After 3 hours of trying to figure it out - this was what I had to do in order to get Generals Working:
    1. Install the titles through Origin Client
    2. Origin Client - Game Options - Disable cloud saving and Origin
    3. In your user/documents - any C&C folders go into and open options.ini and change your resolution and save the file
    4. Any patch for your games from @Nyerguds posts helping other players - (for me - generals & Gentool)
    5. Delete the dbhelp.dll in the root game folders.
    6. I got generals working atm, still can't get zero hour yett.

    Hope that helps!

@Webmetalreese The thread is about Tiberium Wars though, not Generals. I don't think it has the dbghelp.dll problem, and Gentool won't work on it.

  • @Nyerguds Yes Indeed but since I just bought it and fought that stupid directx error for close to 4 hours - I just assumed they were all suffering from the same issues.
Turns out - Each game has their own issues YAY!
Honestly I have to thank you - the only single person on the entire net who actually knows how to solve the issues.
    Rock on .
  • Hi Nyerguds, I followed the link and followed the steps and still got the error.  Is there any other options to get it to work
