Command & Conquer The first Decade

I have a problem that I installed the whole collection of games. But when I want to launch for example C&C Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge, It tells me to insert the DVD ROM, while infact it is in the computer. When I want to open C&C Red Alert 2, It openes normally.. I cant find the problem.. I tried uninstalling and re-installing again, nothing works. I dont know what to do. Thanks! 🙂

    Then I'd say, install the community patch I linked to in my first reply. It makes all the games no-cd.

    Do note that for C&C1, RA1 and TS there have been quite some updates to the community patches since TFD, so you might want to update those further after installing it.

    Command & Conquer 1:

    Red Alert 1:

    Tiberian Sun:

    And for Red Alert 2, if you got any graphis issues, the graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve a lot of them. If you have issues like that, download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.

  • @taherfahmy This could be related to the SafeDisc/SecuRom issue; I think the executables of TFD use that too. Basically, Microsoft decommissioned the main DRM system used for CD copy protection.

    If you're on Win7 or Win8, the easiest fix is to uninstall KB3086255 from the Windows updates. On Win10, there is no easy fix, as far as I know.

    You could also look into the old TFD community patch; it includes No-DVD fixes for the games, since they don't need to read anything from the DVD anyway.

    I really want to thank you for taking the time to reply to my problem. Really appreciate it.

    I just have a question where do I find "KB3086255" to uninstall it? Like what do you mean by from the windows update.

    Thank you for you time. 🙂

    Eh, you can kind of google around yourself for that stuff. I'm here to help with game issues, not windows issues. Where and how to uninstall Windows updates largely depends on which version of Windows you're using, and you never even mentioned that in your post.

    I'm on windows 7, and there, you can just type "view installed updates" in your start menu and it'll pop up. Alternatively, you can just open the Windows Control Panel, open the "Uninstall a program" list and then click "View installed updates" in the sidebar.

    Once you got the list open, you can just use the "search" box in the top right corner of the window  to find the one with ID "KB3086255", and uninstall it.

    @Nyerguds

    Thank you again for replying. Yes I use your same version of windows. I uninstalled this update, but the same problem appears.

    I'll try to elaborate maybe I wasn't clear the first time.

    1. When I press to launch the game from "Computer" it brings this window that contains "User Account Control" saying " Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to the computer" (IMG_3365.JPG)
    2. When I press Yes, it opens the menu from where I chose to select which game I want to play.
    3. If I press for example C&C Generals, It opens up normally. The same for C&C Red alert 2, it also opens normally.
    4. But If I press on C&C Generals Zero Hour or C&C Red alert 2 Yuri's revenge, it gives me the normal screen so as If its loading the game..
    5. Then Gives me a window saying "Cannot locate the DVD-ROM" as shown in the picture attached. While in fact i didn't remove the disk.

    I pressed OK and removed the disk and did all this again but with no use.

    I think this explains what happens a bit better.

    Again so sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for taking the time to reply. 🙂

    Hi I am also having the same problem.

    1. downoloaded ddwrapper

    2. added the two files to my games folder, which is not inside the program files folder

    3. opened the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad and

    4. change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1

    5. saved configuration file "aqrit.cfg"

    6. ran Yuri's Revenge

    7. Go the Cannot locate the DVD-ROM error

    Any suggestions as to what I should try next?

    I run Windows 10

    @BattlingBastrd

    Please read all my posts here instead of just the one marked as solution. The ddwrapper one has nothing to do with the CD issue; I mentioned the answer for that in my earlier reply.
