command and conquer generals

i bought the down load for command and conquer gererals and when i go to play the game online im able to get in to the rooms being hosted but when i try to enter a room it says '' failed to join- the game is a different version'' Zero hour works fine but id rather play generals. Let me know if there is something i can do to make it work.
