Command and Conquer Mod/or Not

I have seen quite a few questions about modifying command and conquer ultimate collection and other versions found on Origin.  I started way back in the mid 1990's with the original c&c and just recently wanted to start playing them up through generals again, so i signed up on Origin and got the set of games.   What I did not know is they are all repacked and or emulated, which makes doing the mods or money hacks not possible like they were in the past.  This of course disappoints me and makes my purchase less worth while.  With that said i have seen post about launchers and other items and i have also seen references to the freeware versions of c&c up to a certain version.  My question is are the freeware version unmolested like the Origin versions, thus allowing the mods or money hacks in the ini file?  The skirmish with money hacks is how i like to play and i believe many other players are the same way.  Its not cheating if your playing against the computer 🙂.   I am not a developer by trade, but i am technical and have written code so any references on how to wrap my head around cracking the exe and reverse engineering would be of interest to me.  If not stupid hard trying to build my own stuff might be an option as it interest me in general.  Over all i'm half tempted to just find hard copies that will run on windows 10 so i can apply the money hacks etc.

any info or thoughts are appeciated

I also  was responding to previous comments inside my reply to you. This why it likely didn’t make sense. The cheats comment was from a previous reply on this topic.  Over all I’m good red alert is feeding the need right now and allows for updating the rules.ini which gives me the money and other options I was seeking.

  • @faulkkev66 Yes, the "fixed launchers" by Bibber allows support for mods for the Ultimate Collection, but as he stopped supporting them a while ago, it is likely that they don't work anymore. You can just try it if you want. The freeware versions indeed allow mods. You said "repacked and or emulated"; all the CNC-games of the Ultimate Collection run natively on Windows through no emulation. Just somehow the Origin-provided EXE's/DRM prevents command-line/mod-support. The hard copies on disk won't work with Windows 10 as Windows 10 doesn't support its DRM anymore. So, the games won't run when using the disk versions. Any more questions? 🙂
  • Thanks for the reply.  I tried the version from cncnet but i haven't found good notes on a trainer for it or maybe it is locked down as well.  Is there known site that is trusted for such patches, trainers etc?  I find that many of the sites i have looked at are very shady.   I am baffled why EA or anyone would force the hand of whether you modify the game or not, it seems to retract that you own what you buy.  I can see the need for online but offline skirmish mode at home you should be able to do whatever you want i would think.

Do note, C&C1 really never could be modded much at all; all mods in there are hacks in the exe file.

But if you want to make your life a bit easier, the C&C95 v1.06 patch (the thing linked from cncnet for C&C95) does add two neat "cheats". During gameplay, try typing the codes "topoftheline" and "tactical".

The first will need a new building to be built or sold before it truly activates though, since it needs to update your construction options. And the second, well, scroll around a bit after you enter it and you'll see.

  • thanks it has been so long i may have been using trainers on Red Alert and forgot. I recall the alchemist trainers back in the day.  ill try the patch and like mess with red alert as well.

    thanks

  • Do i install the patch  C&C95 v1.06 patch onto the cncnet install?  I assume i point it to that directory and don't mess with the origin version?

For example this is my install dir:

    C:\Games\CnCNet\RedAlert1_Online

  • @mrtnptrs I wondered the exe on cncnet version seemed to reflect it was right version.
I could not get the little cheats to work when I typed nothing happened but that is ok.
I ended up playing cncnet red alert. I found the file that is rules Ini now and had some fun with that. Makes skirmish fun when they build as fast as you.

@faulkkev66 So, if I get it your problems are solved with the CNCNet version?

I know English is probably not your native language, but could you try next time to make more correct sentences as your last message was quite hard to read haha.

@faulkkev66 @Nyerguds Isn't the CNCNet version already updated with that 1.06 patch?

It is, yes, though their version is slightly adapted to integrate it with CnCNet's launcher, and has a few multiplayer-specific fixes like faster Nod delivery planes.
