Generals keeps Freezing

I just got the ultimate collection and I have a windows 7 system with okay specs. However every couple of seconds Generals will freeze up when I play. I am playing offline as well. What can I do?

Generals has some performance problems, are you by any  chance amassing huge armies? SAGE (the game's engine) simply can't handle too many units no matter how good your computer.
