Kane's Wrath Origin and Steam version compatibility

I'm trying to play Kane's Wrath with a friend. He owns the game on Steam and I own it on Origin. While trying to play a custom map, I keep getting a message "MISSING: 'FileTransfer :: Status3'" next to my name in the map transfer screen. The progress bar freezes at 9%. Is there a fix for this?

Just through some digging, I noticed the folders in appdata are named different things. The Origin version is named "Command and Conquer Kanes Wrath while the Steam version is named "Command & Conquer Kane's Wrath. I assume this is the cause, but am unsure.
