Menu problem with Red alert 2 on winXP

Ok, so Red alert 2 that was given on the house has a rather unusual issue. And im saying unusual since I couldn't find anything related to it. I also have a problem with NOX.

Before I start, let me give you the specs of the HP mini netbook I use

Intel Atom 1,6Mhz

1 Gig ram

Intel 945GM Express chipset

WinXP SP3

I found plenty of people having issues with the menu buttons not appearing. All cases were on win7. The thing is that I get the buttons of the menu and I can press them just fine. The problem starts when I try to get into skirmish, campaign and network. When I press them It starts the transition but it takes me right back to the same menu. The only button that does something different is the options which basically crashes the game without it closing and the music still playing. I basically cant enter the game. I doubt its the 945GM chip, since the game starts, the intro plays and the problem doesn't present it self during gameplay.

  • Peculiar issue. Never had many problems with any of the games on XP. Didn't know anyone still used XP, though.

First, the basics... open the game's properties in the Origin game browser, and check the option to disable the Origin In Game system for the game; it doesn't seem to work for any of the C&C games.

Then... if you still got issues; I advise trying out the graphics system patch DDWrapper; it  is known to solve quite a bunch of graphical issues on Red Alert 2.
Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and launch the game again.
